Dear Friends & Patrons,

After careful thought and consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Winterport Winery & Penobscot Bay Brewery to focus on what matters most—our family.

As many of you know, we took over this business nearly five years ago. Our vision was to continue crafting Maine made beer, wine, and cider, while having fun doing it. Our tasting room turned into a cozy place for both locals and visitors to enjoy our products as well as good company.

Almost two and a half years ago, our son Bryce was born! Time is definitely a thief as he’s growing and learning so much each day. Time that was spent growing and nurturing this business gradually shifted to what truly matters most to us - our son and family.

During the past five years, we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs, good times and bad, and plenty of laughs. This journey was one we truly enjoyed and are so grateful to have connected with many awesome people along the way.

We are incredibly grateful for every customer, every pint, every glass, and every memory you’ve shared with us. Your support has meant more than words can express.

On this day in 1941, Eleanor Roosevelt arrived on Campobello Island and shared her impressions with readers across North America in her daily My Day newspaper column, on the challenges of a fisherman, the healing powers of the salt water air around us, and more.

My Day, July 12, 1941, excerpt:

"Eastport, Maine, Friday—While at Sebasco Lodge yesterday, I was handed a letter telling me about the work done in Sebasco Village...The economic condition of the lobster men, many of whom earn only about $400 cash a year, is on a par with some of our other low income localities, only theirs is a cold and long winter which requires more cash income. Nearly every fisherman up and down the coast wrings a very precarious livelihood from the sea... It is a dangerous life as well, but there is something you do not get away from easily in the hold of the sea. Even making money, while it is desperately important because you have to live, isn't the most important thing in life...

We reached Campobello very comfortably, stopping to eat our lunch by the wayside and reaching my mother-in-law's house before four-thirty. As we were driving the last part of the way, my mother-in-law kept saying to me: "There is something in the air here which no other air has. I feel better already." I really believe that the trip has done her good...

The Board of Trade of Campobello Island gave a dance last night and we all went down to the hall at eight-thirty. The NYA band came over from Quoddy Village to play and everyone seemed to enjoy it..."
