🌿 A little garden inspiration from Washington, Connecticut! 💚

We’re out enjoying the beautiful plants and landscapes today, and it’s always fun to spot plants that we also carry at the garden center growing out in the real world.

We came across this gorgeous Joe-Pye w**d and immediately thought of all of you! 🌸🐝 This mature plant can reach an impressive 7 feet tall, making quite a statement in the landscape. At the garden center, we carry a more compact variety that grows to around 3 feet tall—perfect for getting that same beautiful look without quite as much height.

One of our favorite things is seeing plants fully grown and established. It gives you a whole new appreciation for what those little plants at the garden center can become! 🌱➡️🌿

We saw this one and just had to share it with you. 💕 Happy gardening from Washington, CT!

🌸 Think you missed your chance to plant perennials? Think again! 🌸

One of the things we love this time of year is that we’re still bringing in fresh perennial inventory while many garden centers are simply selling through what’s left. 🌿✨

And here’s a gardening myth worth busting: Yes, you can absolutely plant perennials in August! ☀️ As long as you give them consistent water while they get established, they’ll have time to settle in before the cooler weather arrives.

Perennials are one of the best investments you can make for your landscape—they come back year after year, adding color, texture, and pollinator-friendly blooms with less work over time. 🌼🦋

Stop by and see what’s new! We’d love to help you find the perfect plants for your garden. 💚

Looking for a flower that can handle the summer heat? 🌼 Gaillardia, better known as Blanket Flower, is one of the toughest perennials you can plant.

Its bright red, orange, and yellow blooms flower for months, thrive in full sun, and once established, they’re surprisingly drought tolerant. Because they stay relatively low, they’re a great choice for borders, walkways, and adding long-lasting color to garden beds without blocking taller plants.

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance plant that keeps your landscape looking vibrant well into the season, Gaillardia is hard to beat.

🌿 Looking for a garden combination that offers color all season long?

This display brings together Hetz Midget Arborvitae for year-round evergreen structure, White Calibrachoa for bright, continuous blooms, and Lemon Purrfection Catmint, which puts on a beautiful show of soft purple flowers that pollinators can’t resist. 🐝💜🤍

The contrast between the crisp white blooms, vibrant purple flowers, and rich green evergreen creates a landscape that’s eye-catching without feeling overdone. It’s a great combination for adding texture, color, and interest from spring through fall, with the arborvitae providing structure even in winter.

Stop by Woodbury Farm Market to see what’s blooming and let us help you find the perfect plants for your own garden! 🌿✨

🌲 A little pruning goes a long way! ✂️💚

When pruning evergreens, leave plenty of the healthy green growth. That’s where your tree or shrub will continue to fill in and thrive. 🌿

Avoid cutting too far back into older, bare branches. Many evergreens—including white pines and Green Giant arborvitae—don’t readily grow back from old wood, so deep cuts can leave permanent gaps.

And always remove dead, damaged, or rubbing branches first. It improves the plant’s health, encourages better airflow, and keeps your landscape looking its best. ☀️🌳

A few thoughtful cuts today can keep your evergreens looking beautiful for years to come! 💚✨

🌸 A beautiful garden doesn’t just happen—it stays beautiful with a little care along the way! 🌿

Here are a few easy summer gardening tips:

🌱 Pull w**ds after a rain. Damp soil makes it much easier to remove the entire root.

🪴 Feed your containers regularly. Flowers in pots use nutrients much faster than plants growing in the ground, so they’ll appreciate a little extra fertilizer throughout the season.

🌞 Garden in the morning. It’s more comfortable for you, and watering or planting before the afternoon heat helps reduce stress on your plants.

🌳 Remove suckers from trees and shrubs. These fast-growing shoots steal energy from the main plant, so trimming them back helps keep your landscape looking its best.

A few minutes of maintenance each week can keep your garden healthy, colorful, and thriving all season long! 🌼💚

🌿 Our Summer Display Garden is in full bloom! 🌸

One of the questions we get asked most is, “What plants look good together?” That’s exactly why we create our seasonal display garden! It’s a chance to see different shrubs and perennials growing together, giving you ideas and inspiration before you plant your own landscape.

✨ Featured Plants:

💛🩷 Happy Face Hearts® Potentilla
A compact, easy-care shrub covered in cheerful blooms with soft pink petals, bright yellow centers, and touches of white. It flowers continuously from late spring through fall, loves full sun, and is a favorite for long-lasting color.

🦋 Whirling Butterflies (Gaura)
Delicate blooms dance above the foliage, creating the look of butterflies floating through the garden. This long-blooming perennial adds movement, texture, and an airy feel while thriving in sunny locations.

❤️ Crimson Cutie® Barberry
A compact barberry with rich crimson foliage that provides bold color all season. Unlike older varieties, Crimson Cutie® is sterile, meaning it doesn’t produce viable seed or self-seed into the landscape, making it a great choice for gardeners looking for a well-behaved ornamental shrub.

Come stroll through our display garden and discover new combinations, fresh ideas, and plants that can bring your own landscape to life! 🌼

Looking for shrubs that bring both beauty and fragrance to your landscape?

🦋 ‘Lo & Behold® Purple Haze’ Buddleia is a compact butterfly bush that produces waves of rich purple blooms all summer long. Its low, spreading habit makes it perfect for borders, slopes, and pollinator gardens—while attracting butterflies and other beneficial pollinators.

🌸 Korean Spice Viburnum is loved for its incredibly fragrant spring flowers, often described as having a sweet, spicy-clove scent. It also offers attractive foliage through the growing season and beautiful fall color, making it a standout shrub even after the blooms fade.

Whether you’re planting for pollinators, fragrance, or year-round interest, both are excellent additions to the landscape.

Late June is one of the busiest—and most rewarding—times in the garden! 🌸🌿

Here are a few quick reminders to keep your landscape looking its best:

🌼 Deadhead spent blooms to encourage many perennials to flower again throughout the season.

🦋 Add pollinator-friendly plants like coneflowers, bee balm, and black-eyed Susans to keep your garden buzzing with bees and butterflies.

🌱 Stay on top of w**ds while they’re still small. A few minutes now can save hours of work later!

🌺 Give flowering annuals and containers a mid-season feeding to keep those colorful blooms going strong.

🐞 Check your plants regularly for pests like aphids and Japanese beetles. Catching problems early makes them much easier to manage.

Whether you’re refreshing an existing garden or starting something new, we’re here to help you find the right plants and answer your gardening questions. Stop by and see us!
