💎 Categories of People that are Mixed With

Shaykh ‘Abd al-Salām Burjis رحمه الله said:

From the people there are those who mixing with them is similar to eating and drinking; one cannot do without it whatsoever. They are the people of knowledge and those who remember Allāh; those who encourage you upon every good and prohibit you from every evil. No Muslim can do without mixing with them, benefitting from their information and manners, and taking from the goodly fruits of their speech just as a honeycomb is taken from. This is one category of people.

Another category, mixing with them is like medicine. He is needed when one is sick or in pain. When the sickness or pain is removed one is not in need of this medicine. These are the people of the Dunyā and industry. Those who the Muslim cannot do without in his worldly life. Therefore he mixes with them for the sake of his Dunyā benefit. Once the benefit is attained he withdraws from mixing with them. Because increased mixing with them corrupts the heart.

A third category is those who mixing with them is utter death by way of consumption of poisoned food. These are the people of evil and deviant methodologies; those who will distance the Muslim from his Lord and bring him closer to every repugnant and despicable act.
