The Golden Notebook has a tremendous line-up of author events in August. We are starting out with “The Hill”, Harriet Clark’s luminous debut novel. Today at 4:30 PM Woodstock Public Library District Harriet will be in conversation with V (formerly Eve Ensler)

I love this quote about the book from a recent NYT review by Hermione Hoby:

“The Hill” might be dreamlike, but it’s far from nightmarish, instead charged with a hushed quality of distillation, lustrous with the obscure meaning of familial romance, plus the sense — common to dreams — of promising some final understanding that can be carried into waking life.”

Please join us for what will be an amazing conversation to celebrate this book!

And thanks to our town's amazing children's librarian Hollie Ferrara and the Woodstock Public Library District for hosting. Books are available at the library for lending and the store for buying.

We had a great time last Saturday with author Mary Burruss who read her new picture book Hooray for Goats. She even brought goat tattoos and stamps! Hooray! 🐐

As June gives way to the long, bright days of summer, we're settling into one of our favorite seasons at the bookstore. School is out, visitors are arriving in Woodstock from everywhere, and maybe there's a little more time to linger over a novel or discover a new favorite author.

This summer also marks the beginning of a new Golden Notebook tradition. We're delighted to launch Pages on Dixon, an occasional reading series celebrating the remarkable writers who call our town and its surrounding areas home. Please join us on Saturday at the Woodstock Public Library District on Dixon Avenue to hear recent work by Terrence Patrick Hughes, Machan Taylor, and Harold Goldberg.

We're also especially excited to welcome two of America's most celebrated novelists, Francine Prose and Scott Spencer for what promises to be a memorable conversation about Francine’s new book, “Five Weeks in the Country”. It's a rare opportunity to hear two extraordinary writers reflect on their work and the craft of fiction, and we hope you'll join us.
