They certainly look like moths but they are in fact a type of butterfly belonging specifically to a distinct group known as skippers from the family Hesperiida, Genus Urbanus, Species U.proteus, Binomial name Urbanus proteus.

This evening sharing a brief interaction with a lovely spread-winged LONG -TAILED SKIPPER enjoying the False (or Ox Eye) Sunflowers in the perennial house.

Buds are starting to make their appearance... and before you know it we'll be blessed with Camellia blooming splendour.

Prized both for the exceptional beauty of their blooms and their rich evergreen foliage, when the rest of the garden 'sleeps' Camellias burst into flower mode with an exquisite display.

The earliest to bloom will be our sasanquas which usually start flowering in October and wrap up some time in December. Once they have completed their colorful show the japonica camellia types will follow close on their heels. The latter make up the Late Winter to Spring Varieties.

Whatever your preference we have an extensive range of these gorgeous shrubs in stock.

A brief glimpse into the past weeks.

MAPLES, MAPLES, MAPLES!

Our diverse selection of Japanese Maples are a delight - their beauty, shape, color and form can be found all around the nursery.

We firmly believe every home should have at least one Japanese Maple.

Fall is around the corner and with many varieties from weeping to upright, there is sure to be a perfect specimen for your landscape.

But whichever one you choose, they will all make beautiful stand-alone specimen plants or be an integral part of any landscape design.

Today we discuss an important subject that involves TAGGING TAPE and TAGGING!

Most people who have visited the nursery would most likely at some point have seen a plant or groups of plants marked with red & white-striped or pink tape. But what does it mean?

RED AND WHITE STRIPED TAPE is used by our Design and Landscape Team to select and tag plants to be used in scheduled TBN Client Landscape Installations.

PINK TAPE is for general use tagging and holding of wholesale or retail customer specific plants for later pickup and payment. Tags should indicate the name of the customer, the date of the tag, and the number of items tagged.

TBN is happy to tag and hold orders without a deposit for 5 BUSINESS DAYS ONLY after which unclaimed items, at the discretion of the nursery, can be untagged and become available again for purchase.

To tag and hold an order for longer than 5 business days (even if items are paid for) requires additional arrangements to be discussed with nursery management and staff.

Carefully selecting plants and then tagging those selections can be time-consuming and so with it unfortunately comes a reminder of the etiquette that needs to be adhered to in this regard.

And that is simply that any and all tagged plants are OFF LIMITS and please on no account should tags be removed from individual plants nor should plants themselves (no matter how good they look) be removed or replaced from within a group of tagged plants.

Fall is just over a month away! It is a perfect time to add value and interest to your landscape with a smart investment that includes the selection and install of trees.

Where deciduous trees are concerned it's prudent to make your choices while trees still have a healthy set of leaves enabling you to determine leaf color, shape and form before winter dormancy.

We have a diverse selection of trees - both deciduous and evergreen and are here to assist you with options and answer all your questions and/or concerns.
