We welcome Black (New Afrikan & Diasporic) Worcester to join us in welcoming Dr. Brian Kwoba to Implacable Books, where he will share insights from his latest book, Hubert Harrison: Forbidden Genius of Black Radicalism.

You do not want to miss the chance to engage Dr. Kwoba, who, according to Robin D. G. Kelley, “has written a beautiful, intellectual biography as radical and original as its subject. He excavates Hubert H. Harrison—brilliant Marxist, Black nationalist, internationalist, and gender rebel—revealing dimensions even his most scrupulous chroniclers missed.”

But who was Hubert Harrison?

Often called “the father of Harlem radicalism,” Harrison was one of the most formidable Black thinkers of the early 20th century. He was a self-taught intellectual who moved from Caribbean migration into the heart of U.S. political struggle who played a decisive role in shaping the ideological terrain that would give rise to the modern Black liberation movement. A fierce critic of white supremacy, capitalism, and imperialism, Harrison brought together Marxist analysis and Black self-determination in ways that were ahead of his time.

Shoutout to the for selecting “Queen Mother: black nationalism, reparations, and the untold story of Audley Moore” by for our cohort to ground the three years we will be building with other New Afrikan cooperatives! The life of Queen Mother Audley Moore spanned ten decades. She was a potent and powerful presence throughout the ups and downs of the New Afrikan struggle through the entire 20th century. She has always been an anchor for our work, and we are grateful that more people will get introduced to her through Dr. Farmer‘s uniquely important work. “From one generation to the next, towards the liberation of New Afrika!”

Someday before long, all of our books (like all of us) will turn to dust. The right place for knowledge is inside of people, not in books, and the real test of knowledge is what we do with it, not how much we know. We must frequent places where we can imbibe knowledge which stand like oases in the dessert because life depend on it. The continuity of knowledge depends on protecting it and passing it on, from one generation to the next, until freedom is won. Less than a collection of books, these places are concentrations of careful, compassionate, militant human attention on what reality requires of people arrayed in complex and contradictory social formations, to get the most out of life, and prove that perennial feeling that some things are not right, and that we deserve to be free. What the experience of freedom will be like we do not know, but unshakable is our conviction and faith that we won’t stop until we get there.
