Silt fence is familiar on Texas jobsites, but erosion and sediment control involves much more than one BMP. Different parts of a project can generate different runoff and sediment challenges. A perimeter may need sediment control while a slope requires stabilization, and a drainage point may require inlet protection or another specialized measure. Texas Erosion Supply maintains a broad product range so contractors can address multiple site conditions through one supplier.

That includes:
πŸ”Έ Erosion control: erosion blankets, turf reinforcement mats and ARVS.
πŸ”Έ Sediment control: silt fence, silt sock, wattles, silt dikes and inlet protectors.
πŸ”Έ Drainage: HDPE pipe, drain basins and corrugated metal pipe.
πŸ”Έ Stabilization: geotextiles, geogrids, hydraulic mulch, seed and fertilizer.

The right combination depends on the project design, site conditions, SWP3 and applicable requirements. Thinking about the site as a complete drainage and erosion-control system can produce a much more effective approach than selecting products individually.

πŸ“– π—œπ—‘ π—•π—Ÿπ—’π—š What Is a Silt Fence? How It Works, When to Use It and Installation Tips

Silt fences are essential temporary sediment control barriers widely used across construction, grading, and land development sites in Texas.

By stretching geotextile fabric across stakes and burying the base, these barriers slow down stormwater runoff so suspended soil settles before leaving the property. This comprehensive guide details everything site managers, contractors, and engineers need to know about selecting the right fabric, avoiding undercutting, and complying with TCEQ requirements. You'll discover the distinct advantages of standard, wire-backed, and super silt fences for varying slopes and flow rates. We also walk you step-by-step through proper installation along terrain contours to ensure maximum efficiency during rain events. Finally, learn key SWPPP inspection and maintenance protocols to prevent structural failures, costly fines, and downstream liability.

Stabilization Matters When the Soil Is Exposed

Once construction disturbs the ground, rainfall has a much easier path to detach and transport soil. Stabilization is therefore a critical part of managing erosion on active sites. The objective is to reduce the ability of rainfall and runoff to disturb exposed soil while establishing a more durable surface.

Depending on the location and project requirements, contractors may use erosion-control blankets, turf reinforcement mats, hydraulic mulch, seed, fertilizer, or other stabilization methods. TxDOT specifications also address stabilization and erosion-control practices for transportation projects, while applicable construction sites must follow the requirements of their SWP3 and TPDES authorization. Product selection should account for slope, flow conditions, soil, vegetation establishment, and the expected duration of disturbance.

Texas Erosion Supply provides materials for both temporary and longer-term stabilization strategies.

Planning a roadway or pavement project on questionable soil?
Run through this checklist before construction begins.
β˜‘οΈ Assess subgrade soil conditions and identify areas of instability
β˜‘οΈ Determine whether soil meets structural requirements without reinforcement
β˜‘οΈ Evaluate whether over-excavation and fill replacement is cost-effective versus reinforcement
β˜‘οΈ Confirm grid specifications match expected traffic loads and pavement design
β˜‘οΈ Plan grid placement to intercept crack transmission at the base layer
β˜‘οΈ Coordinate installation sequencing with aggregate and paving crews

Getting these steps right at the planning stage prevents costly rework once paving begins. Biaxial geogrids are most effective when placed correctly relative to the subgrade and aggregate layers, so proper sequencing matters as much as the material itself. Skipping this evaluation is often what leads to premature cracking and early pavement failure, the exact problems geogrids are designed to prevent. A little upfront assessment goes a long way toward a roadway that performs as designed for its full intended lifespan.

What Happens When Sediment Reaches the Drainage System?

Sediment does not have to leave the property boundary to become a construction-site problem. Once sediment enters a drainage system, it can accumulate around inlets, pipes, channels, and downstream control points. That is why sediment-control measures need to be considered wherever runoff is being collected or redirected. Depending on the site, useful BMPs may include curb inlet protection, drop inlet protection, silt fence, silt sock, wattles, sediment basins, or dewatering controls. The applicable SWP3 should identify the controls necessary to minimize pollutant discharges from the construction site.

Texas Erosion Supply also provides custom-fabricated curb inlet protection and sediment-basin solutions for projects with specific requirements. In-house fabrication gives contractors another option when a standard off-the-shelf configuration does not fit the job.

Wire Panel Walls provide a practical and adaptable solution for soil stabilization and sediment control across a wide range of environments. Designed using hot dipped or black steel, these systems combine durability with flexibility in challenging ground conditions. Contractors often choose Wire Panel Walls for projects where traditional retaining structures may struggle with soil movement. Their engineered design allows structures to shift and settle naturally without compromising stability. This makes them especially effective in wetlands, ponds, and environmentally sensitive areas.

Unlike rigid cast-in-place systems, Wire Panel Walls adapt to real site behavior over time. Installation is faster, reducing labor costs and project timelines. They also blend naturally into surrounding landscapes, supporting permanent vegetation growth. The result is a solution that balances engineering performance with environmental integration.

Wire Panel Walls deliver reliability where adaptability matters most.

Construction schedules do not always leave room for waiting on one missing piece of an erosion-control system. A contractor may need geotextile fabric for one area, inlet protection for another, and stabilization materials before the next phase begins. Having access to a broad product range can simplify procurement and reduce the need to coordinate multiple specialty suppliers.

Texas Erosion Supply stocks products for erosion control, sediment control, drainage, geosynthetics, landscape construction, and turf establishment. TES also operates its own fleet of trucks and can arrange jobsite delivery. With locations in Wylie and Sherman, the company serves contractors across the DFW region. The combination of inventory, fabrication, delivery, and technical product knowledge is designed around the realities of construction, not just the products themselves.

Geosynthetics are often associated with erosion control, but their applications extend across the entire site-development process. Geotextiles can be used in different stabilization, separation, filtration, and drainage applications depending on their specification and installation. Geogrids can provide reinforcement in roadway and other structural applications. Paving fabrics can also play a role in infrastructure projects where specified. For commercial, municipal, oil and gas, and renewable-energy development, material selection needs to match the engineering requirements of the application.

Texas Erosion Supply provides woven and nonwoven geotextiles, biaxial roadway geogrids, and paving fabrics as part of its broader geosynthetics offering. The important question is not simply β€œWhich geosynthetic do we have?” but β€œWhich material is appropriate for this application?”

5 Signs Your Yard Needs a Drainage System

Not sure if your property actually needs a drainage upgrade?

Here are five signs to watch for before the next big storm hits.
🌊 Puddles that linger on your lawn for more than a day after rain
🌊 Soggy or spongy patches near your home's foundation
🌊 Visible soil erosion along slopes or garden beds
🌊 Water pooling on driveways, patios, or garage entrances
🌊 A musty smell or mold creeping up near ground level

If even one of these sounds familiar, it's time to look at a real solution. Our drainage products, from channel drain to catch basins to pop-up emitters, are built to collect excess surface water and send it somewhere safe. They're lightweight, easy to install, and tough enough to handle everyday landscaping abuse. Suitable for both landscape and hardscape applications, these systems work quietly behind the scenes so your yard doesn't have to suffer every time it rains.
