Wilderness Road Mercantile, LLC is located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia. Our mission is to provide essentials to individuals, families and organizations who are preparing themselves for imminent tough times or returning to the roots of a self-sustaining life style. Interestingly, we are in located in Wytheville, Virginia, which lies along the original Great Valley a

nd Wilderness Road Trails. Businesses in the area during the late 1700’s and early 1800’s provided provisions and supplies to Americans as they forged westward to the Cumberland Gap and a new life. Daniel Boone and 35 axmen blazed a trail called the Wilderness Road from Virginia through the Cumberland Gap into central Kentucky. The trail opened in 1775 and was upgraded to a wagon road in 1796. During a 35 year period, from 1775 to 1810, it is reported that over 300,000 people traveled westward on foot, horseback and by wagon in search of a new beginning. Boone recommended three essentials for a pioneer: “A good gun, a good horse, and a good wife.” While we don’t supply guns, horses or wives, we do offer a number of products to assist those providing for their storehouses. Consider the ant and be wise – store provisions and gather supplies at harvest-time.

Don’t guess with lookalikes like this one ⚠️ I always tell people to check the stem before anything else because that detail can save you from a very dangerous mistake.
🔍 Queen Anne’s lace has a hairy stem
🟣 Poison hemlock has a smooth stem with purple blotches
🌿 The flowers can look similar at first glance, which is why I never go by blooms alone
🚫 If I’m not completely sure, I leave it alone and do not touch it
This is one of those times where a close look really matters.
