The House of Gurney is located in Yankton, South Dakota. The founder, Charles W. His son, D.B.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 21, 2012. First incorporated as the Gurney Seed & Nursery Company in the late nineteenth century, the company grew steadily and was sold out of the family in 1942. Gurney was a state leader in commercial horticulture. Gurney used innovative marketing. The House of Gurney took on a radio station, a magazine, a shopping center, comm

unity festivals during the Depression, political advocacy, and a regional chain of gas stations that sold the alternative fuel "gasahol." The third generation, Chan Gurney, helped the House of Gurney purchase and manage the WNAX radio station, a regional heavyweight, before going on to his own business and political career.
