GRINDING FOR MY CUSTOMERS. 🎣💪

I often joke that I might be the hardest-working guy in the fishing business. Days like this make a pretty good case. 😂

🕓 4:00 AM — Wide awake. Thank you, jet lag.
🕗 8:00 AM — Breakfast meeting with my dealer from Dubai 🇦🇪
🕘 9:00 AM — Hit the world’s largest fishing tackle show 🌎🎣
🕤 9:30 AM–5:45 PM — Meet vendors, inspect products, discover new gear, negotiate deals, shoot videos, and hunt for the next great products for our customers.
🕕 6:00 PM — Big factory dinner 🥘 followed by the almost-mandatory Chinese baijiu toast 🥃🔥
🕙 10:00 PM — Back to the hotel, shower 🚿, open the laptop 💻 and work until 1:00 AM.

Then tomorrow?

RINSE. REPEAT. 🔁

This is what goes on behind the scenes at Palmarius. I didn’t travel halfway around the world to sit in a hotel room. I’m here to find better products, build stronger factory relationships, negotiate better deals, and bring more value back to our customers.

🇺🇸 HAPPY LABOR DAY FROM MY FAMILY & PALMARIUS OUTDOORS 🇺🇸

To me, Labor Day is about a lot more than cookouts and cold beers. 🍺 It’s about recognizing the men and women who work hard, serve others, build things, fix things, and keep this country moving—often at a real cost to themselves.

I spent almost 30 years in the IBEW, and I’ve got the scars to prove it: three repaired hernias, an on-the-job heart attack, a twice broken ankle, and knees that remind me every morning. 😂

Would I do it again?

Without hesitation. Absolutely.

Working in the field, out in the open air, alongside men and women who had your back—and who you could truly call brothers and sisters—was priceless. I’ll always be grateful for those years, regardless of the aches and pains that came with them.

WHY I STILL GO TO THE FACTORIES 🌎✈️🏭

When we make these overseas buying trips, we really have two goals.

Goal #1: Kick the ladders with our existing suppliers.

My late father-in-law ran a company doing roughly $25 million a year manufacturing Christmas lights in China. If you bought Christmas lights at JCPenney, CVS or Kmart back in the day, there’s a good chance you bought Bright Star lights his company manufactured.

He taught me a lot about doing business overseas, including one saying I’ll never forget:

“The first order from a factory will be the best order you ever get. The second will probably be pretty good. By the third order—watch out.” 😂

There’s a lot of truth buried in that joke.

Quality doesn’t maintain itself.

That’s why I come here personally.

I randomly inspect our production before the final retainage is paid. The factories know I’m coming. They know I’m going to look hard. They know I understand what I’m looking at. And most importantly, they know final payment comes when I’m satisfied with what we’re receiving.

That system works. 🎣💪

These trips aren’t vacations. 17 hours on an airplane isn’t fun. The jet lag stacks up quickly. Hotels, airfare and transportation aren’t cheap—and there’s an even bigger opportunity cost when I’m halfway around the world instead of sitting at my desk in America writing orders and running the business.

But I believe it’s worth it.

Because when our name says PALMARIUS, ultimately the responsibility for what goes into that box belongs to us—not the factory.

And that’s Goal #1 of these trips.

Goal #2 is a whole different story… and probably the more exciting one. 👀🔥
