An extraordinary pre-publication association copy, inscribed by Frank Abagnale to Johnny Carson: “To Johnny, in deep appreciation for making all this possible,” dated July 18, 1980, approximately six weeks prior to the book’s reported publication.

The association is especially significant in light of the dust jacket itself, which reproduces a photograph of Abagnale with Carson and notes that Abagnale’s appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson created a sensation across the United States. The present inscription appears to acknowledge Carson’s role in introducing Abagnale and his remarkable story to a national audience. The warm and revealing wording, coupled with the early date of inscription, transforms the volume from a desirable signed first edition into a compelling presentation copy to one of the most influential figures in American entertainment.

Published in 1980, Catch Me If You Can recounts Abagnale’s exploits as a teenage confidence man who successfully posed as an airline pilot, physician, attorney, and college professor while passing forged checks throughout the United States and abroad. The memoir became an international bestseller and later served as the basis for Steven Spielberg’s celebrated 2002 film adaptation.

A remarkable author-to-subject association copy linking Abagnale with the television personality whose program helped bring his story to national prominence.

King’s post apocalyptic novel and one of his most memorable books! A nice copy featuring a VG book with a scuff to the spine, some spotting on the end papers, rubbing to gilt lettering, corners lightly bumped, an ink stamp on the ffep. Tight and square binding. Dust jacket in VG with some toning to front panel, two small chips to spine heel, stain to verso and small spot to spine heel on the front. This copy retains its original price and comes housed in a beautiful slipcase!

Octavo, 507 pp. Publisher’s original red binding with silver gilt to spine and deckled fore edge. Publisher’s original dust jacket with iconic John Schoenherr artwork. Beautifully signed by Herbert with a black pen on the FFEP. Not tipped in page or laid in signature. Rather, this copy was signed for his friend John Ottenheimer.
The book needs no real introduction as it remains one of the most successful and captivating Science Fiction novels of all time. The first installment in the Dune Chronicles, it shared the Hugo Award for Best Novel with Zelazny’s “This Immortal” and was awarded the first ever Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1966. Films by David Lynch (no relation) in 1984 and Denis Villenueve’s two part adaptation in 2021 and 2024 would follow, along with a 2000 Sci-Fi Channel mini-series.
An incredible association, this copy belonged to John Ottenheimer who was an apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright for 5 years, was the project manager of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa, WI and was the original designer of Frank Lloyd Wright’s gravestone. After his apprenticeship he was a staff architect for Wright’s firm, Taliesin for 11 years. Ottenheimer also worked on the Guggeneim Museum in New York City. On top of this, he was also a science fiction fan and big fan of Frank Herbert, who he eventually became friends with.

Condition: Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. Book is sound and complete, with light general wear appropriate to grade. Jacket shows some staining and light handling wear; small chips, spot of tape repair to closed tear at spine heel, not price-clipped. A presentable copy of a key twentieth-century novel, preserving the striking Mercer Mayer jacket art.

Note: Harper & Row’s 1967 American issue appeared the same year as Grove Press’s competing translation; this edition is the Michael Glenny translation and is especially notable for Mayer’s memorable black-cat jacket design. An attractive example of this classic work.

Importance: Written in the Soviet Union under Stalin and published only after Bulgakov’s death, The Master and Margarita is widely regarded as one of the defining novels of twentieth-century Russian literature. Its extraordinary blend of satire, fantasy, philosophical inquiry, and religious allegory has made it both a landmark of literary modernism and an enduring meditation on artistic freedom, moral courage, and the survival of imagination under repression.

The book that finally launched McCarthy’s career off. Thanks to Amanda Urban and the Knopf marketing department, who heavily promoted the release of the first book in The Border Trilogy, All the Pretty horses was an immediate best seller and would win the National Book Award. It happened to coincide with Sonny Mehta’s efforts to release McCarthy’s back catalogue as vintage paperbacks. Suddenly, McCarthy was a household name. More acclaim would follow with McCarthy winning the Pulitzer for 2006’s The Road.

Review copies of this title aren’t very common at all, I’ve maybe seen 3 or 4 over the past 5 years. Further, I almost always see them with just the review slip, lacking the prospectus.

My company has asked us to come into the office 3 days a week and when I am at the shop I’m by myself and have to lock the door for meetings. We will be open MOST Saturdays. A near fine copy, with minor edge wear to the cloth and faint toning to the top edge; internally clean and tight. Housed in a near fine dust jacket showing light rubbing and a touch of edgewear, without significant loss or restoration.

Barr’s first and best-known work of fiction, a controversial and stylistically eccentric science fiction novel depicting a hierarchical interstellar society marked by decadence and coercion. Long obscure, the book has gained significant notoriety in recent years due to its thematic parallels to later real-world events and its connection to the author’s tenure as headmaster of the Dalton School, where Jeffrey Epstein was later employed and possibly hired by the Barr.

Now increasingly scarce in collectible condition, particularly in original jacket, with most surviving copies ex-library or well worn. A cult science-fiction novel whose market has been renewed following the discovery of the JE connection. Problem is they are super scarce in collectible condition! This one is quite handsome!
