We’re so excited that “The Illustrated Compendium of Horror” by local artist and author Liz Deleo is finally here!

The world of horror comes to life with this gorgeously illustrated and whimsical journey through the genre—exploring the folklore, monsters, and tropes that have fueled our fears for centuries.

AND. IT GLOWS IN THE DARK!

All summer, you’ve been asking, in DMs, events, and even at the grocery store, about a fall crawl. We’re happy to say the Coastal Maine Indie Book Crawl fall edition is on!

Join us on Saturday, October 10 for a cozy day of indie bookstore hopping. We’re also marking the end of Banned Books Week by celebrating the joy of finding stories we didn’t know we need — and raising awareness for the ones that keep getting challenged.

Start your crawl at Literally, Kittery, Perkins Cover Bookshop, Lupine Books, Octopus Bookshop, or with us at The Booktenders — then stop by as many as you can.

Here’s how it works:
🍁Grab your Book Crawl passport at your first stop
📚Visit all five participating bookstores
💬Share some love — reviews, follows, photos, shares
🖋️Stamp your passport stamped or signed at each shop
🎉Turn in your completed passport to enter the raffle
📸 Don’t forget to tag

Passports must be dropped off by close of business on October 10.

🚨 Book Club is Back Sept. 23 at 6pm🚨

Gentle readers, we are delighted to announce the return of the book club at the bookstore.

We’ll meet the fourth Wednesday of each month like before, but we’re pushing the start time up to 6 pm.

Scroll below the description for additional details.

Written with radiant warmth, wisdom, and compassion, Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt is a timeless and ultimately uplifting story about appreciating life, accepting its end, and finding our place in the universe—especially when it feels most impossible—that will resonate with anyone who has ever loved and lost or worried about time’s passing.

“This is one of the most affecting, original, and unforgettable novels I have ever read. . . The characters are so vivid that they seem to be sitting beside you, their loves and losses your own. Absolutely breathtaking, with a perfect twist of an ending.” —Sarah Damoff, bestselling author of The Bright Years

I think I remember how this works🫣:

📚 Grab a copy of the book from us so we know you’re coming. Feel free to grab the audio from Libro.fm or the ebook from Bookshop.org if you prefer either of those.
📚Bring a snack and your favorite beverage.
📚The store will be open for browsing after our discussion. All attendees will receive 20% off their order.

Not pictured: 70+ previously loved books that hit the outside table. 😅

I just found two more boxes that need to go out, but I need to tackle the email that came in while we were closed last week.

We’re here until 5!

One more sleep until we reopen! We’ll see you tomorrow at 11ish.
