Fly Like Paper Design

Thanks to everyone for another great weekend at Gray Apple Market Fall Flea! Now that I no longer have a stand at Central Market, the chance to get out in my local community of York is all the more precious 💌

Thanks to all the people who said “this booth is just what I’ve been looking for”, or “I can’t wait to send this card to my _____ (friend, sister, … mom, etc)”, or “this sticker is perfect for my laptop!” When you support a small business, you are directly supporting a person with a vision in your community 💌

Also, in the words of Snoop Dogg, “Last but not least, I want to thank me.” I’ve only been doing popup events since this spring and the Gray Apple Spring Market was my first outdoor event. I’ve invested a ton of time, money, and effort to upgrade my booth and shopping experience since then. I always strive to keep improving but I think I’ve come a long way and am so proud of myself 💌

Looking back on first year of FLPD

Writing this on September 1st, the day after I cleaned out my stand at York Central Market. It’s been a little over a year since setting up shop as Fly Like Paper Design and I wanted to take a moment to reflect. Thank you to anyone who has been watching and cheering on my journey. Launching and maintaining a small business requires some serious guts and I hope I keep being able to stand up to the challenge.

I dreamed of opening a paper goods shop and design business for about a decade before I actually started. So many things held me back from trying like fear of failure, imposter syndrome, and no clear path. But now after a year, I can officially say I really really tried. There were awesome days where I felt on top of the world, created beautiful things, and organically met “my people” out in the world. There have also been the zero sale market days, grueling physical work in the heat, and rude af unsolicited comments that have me question everything. But I am trying and that is a really amazing thing. I hope I am able to look back on this as one of the most character building times of my life and know I gave it my damndest.

So far I have printed and sold thousands of greeting cards, art prints, and stickers that I’ve sold in my shop and wholesale. It is an honor to be stocked in shops around the country. I strive to keep creating beautiful things that inspire joy and to keep getting out there and meeting the people who “get me” and connect with the art I make.

I’ve also met so many kick ass small business people out there who inspire and encourage me to keep trying… thank you!

I can’t wait to keep working on some new stuff that I will share here soon. Thanks for reading 💌
