Bookmarked in York Sharing the places, stories, treasures, and hidden gems of York, PA and beyond. Hello and welcome to my little corner of the internet!

As an indie author, I understand how hard it is to be seen, which is why I spotlight small businesses and introduce you to new places to shop, eat, and explore. I’m a York-based author who loves highlighting Pennsylvania places and the businesses and people that make our community shine. As a small-business owner and indie book publisher, I know how tough it is to be seen—so this page exists to sp

otlight the shops, makers, and hidden gems that lift up York and surrounding areas. Some will be longtime favorites; others I hope will be new to you. Stick around for smiles, local eats and adventures, and the occasional new story (and gift!) to take home.

So today we went to SugarRush-Sweet & Snack Expo (which I will be posting more about later this weekend). While there, on Corinda's Cakery table was this display. It has two cakes and the rest are the actual vegetables!

Her work is incredible!

Which two do you think are the cakes?

If you are able to show Apricity Products some love this week, they would appreciate it! Please take a moment to read their post I’m sharing.

this is one of those posts i really hate making, but small business is real life + sometimes real life is.. rude. 🫠

our business bank card was unfortunately hacked + hit with huge fraudulent charges that pretty much wiped us out.

we’ve of course reported everything + we’re waiting on the bank to issue a credit, but we’ve been told that process could take over a week. + when you’re a small business during the slow back-to-school season, a week without access to that money is a really long week.

so, if you’ve been thinking about stopping in, grabbing a gift card, placing an order, stocking up on candles, looking for a gift, booking the candle bar, or just treating yourself to something, we could honestly use the extra love right now. 🤍 our doors + website is always open for ya.

we’ll be okay. it’s just incredibly frustrating to work so hard to keep a small business moving forward + have something completely outside of your control knock you backwards overnight, literally. huge punch in the gut.

no pity party over here. just being transparent about where we’re at + asking our little community to show up for us >if you’re able< because i know it’s hard out here for us all right now!

every purchase, share, comment + “hey, go check out apricity” genuinely matters right now + always!!

+ apparently supporting small is kinda chic anyway? that’s what i heard idk 🌿

Who’s going to SugarRush – Sweet & Snack Expo this weekend?! 🍭🍫🍬

We’ll be there tomorrow and I can’t wait!

Of course, my back decided yesterday would be the perfect time to give out on me. 🙄 And I don’t even have a good story to go with it. No daring rescue. No extreme sports. Nothing. 🙄

So I’ll probably be sporting a very fashionable back brace and moving a little slower than I’d planned, but I’m not letting that stop me!

I’m ready to check out all the sweets, snacks, vendors and whatever other deliciousness SugarRush has waiting for us. 🍪🍿🍩

Who else is going?! And more importantly…what should I make sure I don’t miss? 👀🍭

If you think about the vastness of space…
how enormous our galaxy is…
how big our planet is… 🌎
and how incredibly tiny we are in comparison…

I’m really not eating that many cookies. 😁

It’s all about perspective. 😉

Now the important question: What’s your favorite cookie from a local small business, and where do you get it? 👇

Let’s give our local cookie makers some love!

Who likes spice & flavor ? 🌶️🔥

Before I begin, this shoutout comes with a warning: Howie’s Hot Sauce may be habit-forming. 🤣

We first met Howie last month at Second Sunday on King in Downtown York’s Royal Square District. My husband and son stopped at his booth, sampled some sauces, and came home with a few bottles to try.

They liked everything they brought home, but soon zeroed in on a favorite: Meat Sweats.

And then they emptied the bottle.

Waiting several weeks until the next Second Sunday apparently wasn’t an option, so we made a special trip to Brandon's Beverage to raid their hot sauce section and get more.

Then we saw Howie again at Second Sunday this month and, naturally, stocked up. Again. 😁

At this point, I guess you could say Howie is our dealer. 🤣🌶️ Our household is officially hooked.

One of the best parts about catching Howie’s Hot Sauce at an event is his sampling table. You don’t have to stare at a bunch of bottles wondering which one you’ll like. You can actually taste your way through them, and Howie knows his stuff! Tell him what flavors you like and what kind of heat you can handle, and he’ll drop some hot sauce knowledge and help steer you in the right direction.

And yes, that IS Howie’s face on the bottle. 😂

He has a whole lineup of sauces with fun names and flavor combinations, so whether you’re looking for something fruity, savory, sweet, or something that brings the HEAT, there’s plenty to explore. I don’t think I captured them all, so maybe he’ll see this post and correct me. 🤣

Unlike most of my small business shoutouts, Howie doesn’t have a traditional storefront to send you to. He pops up at events throughout York and the surrounding areas, which makes finding him part of the fun! However, we were excited to find out you can now purchase online as well at https://howieshotsauce.com/

But if you happen to see that face staring back at you from a table at a local event, stop and say hello. Try some samples, talk sauce with him, and find YOUR favorite.

Give them a like, a follow, and a try! Just don’t blame me if you end up making an emergency hot sauce run before his next pop-up. 🤣🔥🌶️

Support small. Shop local. And apparently… find yourself a good hot sauce dealer. 😂

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for another BIY Small Business Spotlight!

This week we’re heading to Wrightsville to visit The Wild Batch Bistro! ☕🥐

I’ve actually visited both Wild Batch locations, including their second location inside Franklin Street Social in Red Lion, but this visit took me back to their original bistro in Wrightsville.

Now, I should probably start with the savory side of the menu. Breakfast sandwiches, bagels, sweet and savory crepes, and lunch options are all waiting to be tried.

But I can’t tell you about those yet.
Because I have a sweet tooth and I’m the type of person who believes in eating dessert FIRST and then saving a little room for the actual meal. That’s just how I roll. 🤣

So naturally, I headed straight for the baked goods.

Their macarons are honestly some of the BEST I’ve ever had, if not THE best. There’s always a variety of flavors to choose from, which presents the obvious problem of deciding which ones need to come home with you. My solution? Get several. 😂

I’m also a big fan of their chocolate chip cookies, and next on my list are the scones, one of the many popular goodies coming out of their bakery.

But there’s another part of The Wild Batch that makes this business especially fun to follow: the owner herself.

If you follow The Wild Batch on social media, you already know she isn’t exactly your traditional baker. 🤣

She’s done everything from crowd surfing to recreating TikTok trends and creating some of my favorite social media moments, especially when they don’t go quite according to plan.

One of my favorites was a skit where she was “arrested” because her baked goods were just THAT good. Funny idea…until people thought it was REAL and she spent weeks explaining that no, she had not actually been hauled off to jail. 🤣

And then there was a particular TikTok trend recreation featuring her and two others representing three kinds of people that, well…kind of backfired (for some people). IYKYK. 😂

Behind all the fun, though, is a local bakery turning out some seriously delicious treats, along with breakfast and lunch for those of you who apparently have enough self-control to eat your meal BEFORE dessert. 🤣

Behind the bakery is also someone who is very involved in community events, small business partnerships, and supporting others. She pours her heart and her all into what she does, and that’s something I always love seeing in our small business community. ❤️

The Wild Batch has two York County locations:

📍 The Wild Batch Bistro
120 N. 4th Street, Wrightsville

📍 The Wild Batch at Franklin Street Social
214 N. Franklin Street, Red Lion

The Red Lion location focuses more on the bakery, dessert, and coffee side, while the Wrightsville bistro offers the larger breakfast and lunch menu along with all those tempting baked goods.

So whether you’re looking for breakfast or lunch, a cup of coffee, or you’re like me and consider a macaron a perfectly reasonable appetizer, The Wild Batch is definitely one to bookmark.

And if you’ve already been, tell me your favorite thing from The Wild Batch because apparently I need to start making my way through the rest of that bakery case. 😂

As always, give The Wild Batch Bistro a like, a follow, and a try, and tell them Bookmarked in York sent you! ❤️
