When I first started reselling, I thought of it as a “little hobby” and something I “just made money on the side” with.

If only I knew then what I know now! 😂

With that mindset, I stored hard goods on metal racks and clothing on clothing racks. No system. No inventory list. No real organization. I just knew where everything was… because I remembered. 🤪

And honestly? It worked! I could usually find every order. IYKYK 😂

But that was a system that worked for a smaller inventory—not a growing business.

Eventually, we outgrew it and upgraded to a bin system. Each item was labeled with a letter and number that corresponded to its category.

And for a while, that worked too.

Until we grew even more. 😅

Now we’re implementing another, even easier inventory system—and I seriously wish we had done it sooner.

If I had believed from the beginning that this “little side business” could grow into what it has become, I would have built a scalable system from day one.

I’m not saying your system needs to look like mine. That’s one of the things I love about reselling—we all get to do it our own way.

But I am saying this:

Take the extra time NOW to create a system that can grow with you.

Don’t just build a system for the inventory you have today.

Build one for the business you’re hoping to have tomorrow.

Not for IF your business grows…

…but for WHEN it does. ❤️

This may be controversial, but it’s definitely something that needs to be talked about.

There are a lot of people who claim that resellers are ruining thrift stores by taking all the items and causing thrift stores to raise their prices.

But there are so many things to consider when having this conversation.

For example, the sheer amount of clothing that thrift stores receive that ultimately doesn’t sell—and ends up in landfills.

Or the fact that some thrift stores are pricing extremely basic, used items at prices that make absolutely no sense for the person who may actually need them.

Take this shirt, for example.

Why would someone pay $8.99 for a USED shirt with STAINS when they can buy the same brand NEW for $11.99?

I highly doubt many resellers are buying this particular brand to resell. And if you are, please let me know—how much profit are you actually making on an $8.99 purchase?

So when people say, “Resellers are the reason thrift stores are so expensive,” I honestly think that argument is a little too simplistic.

Maybe instead of blaming resellers, we should be asking why thrift stores are charging these prices in the first place.

These items were donated to the thrift store for FREE.

There’s nothing wrong with thrift stores making money—they have to operate too. But when a stained, used shirt is $8.99 and the same shirt is $11.99 brand new, something about that doesn’t make sense.

Clearly Depop isn’t our best selling platform, however, I’ve noticed a shift these past few weeks in sales. Just this weekend alone we had five 🤯 perhaps it has a lot to do with the shipping rates but I’ll take it! How have your Depop sales been? Has anyone else noticed a shift?
