My booth # is D11 and it will face to the street right across from the Starving Artist Studio and Femms and Fidos store fronts. Do hope many of you can make it out on either day.

The time it takes to bring a pointillism art piece to completion is often miscalculated. This work is such and I've not been satisfied in the image as I continued to lay down more "dot points". This is often the case when viewing a white marble statue. As the effect of seeing the marble in person and under light, the shadows come forth as you move around it. With black ink on white paper, the proces is often hard as how do you bring forth the softness of white marble in the black ink?

Often I begin and once I set out the main areas of outlines outside and inside, the depthness begins to come forth. Then it becomes almost too soft and there is no discernible contrast of the image in leaping off the paper. So, how do you keep the softness of the image w/o making the art piece too dark but still come to life?

After many years of doing this medium...patience is key but another aspect is the viewing process. As you work so closely to the paper with pen in hand, the best way to reflect if the image is showing signs of "life" off the page, you picked it up and hold it at arms length. Not just pen and ink but color as well. As in color, you "layer" the softer colors first and then gradually add the darker tones. This is the same for black ink, but w/ a more depth scrutiny when placing the dots and then frequently holding the paper out to watch for the shadows, lines, curves and more bring the image to life.

The aforementioned time calculation often is thrown out due to the delicate structure of not truly seeing the additionsl timing of the shadows and enhancing that may have been missed in the initial process of time to completion.

And as the phrase that is often asked of us and our response..."it'll be done when it's done" will be stated. That is your art lesson for today!

It's been said that to "move beyond what your comfortable with" and "expand your horizons"- "in a path less taken", I do so with trepidation on my first attempt at an abstract construction color pencil and pen piece. The images of Robert Dulauney and his circular movement designs gave me this design concept. No plan for the color scheme as it'll be a main color and complimentary as I work on each area. No telling what will come forth so I'll update as i progress.

I'll once again be attending 2nd Sundays Williamsburg this Sunday the 13th of September. Last month was an exhausting day as I had only $35 in sales; my Square wouldn't function and forgot to pick up cash. AND it was over 100 degrees with no shade when tearing down and loading up. The weather for Sunday is calling for rain but that is 5 days away....? We take the good with the bad in being part of outdoor events like these.
