Ernie E. Barnes (American, 1938-2009) was an acclaimed painter and former professional football player best known for his expressive scenes of sports, music, dance, and everyday life. Recognized for his signature style of elongated, dynamic figures, Barnes drew inspiration from movement and the human form. His iconic painting The Sugar Shack became one of the most recognizable images in American art, while his work also appeared on the television series Good Times and Marvin Gaye's I Want You album cover.
