A sad Dyl-ightful Story
Our page has not had much activity lately and we wanted to explain why. Someone in our community felt threatened enough to file an anonymous complaint on my 13yo son's business to the City of Yuba City. They stated that he was operating a business without a business license. What they didn't realize when they did their inquiry was that due to his age it was not a requirement until he reaches a certain earnings threshold. They didn't stop there, they called each of the businesses that he was affiliated with to spread this misinformation.
My son ran a small, honest business and had taken all the necessary steps, including obtaining a cottage food permit and Serv-Safe certification. The complaint, however, did bring attention to the fact that his business was approaching the earnings threshold for requiring a business license. We decided to initiate the licensing process. We wanted to teach him the importance of following proper procedures.
During this process, we discovered that our landlord was firmly against any business operations from our rented home. So, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the cessation of our candy sales for now.
This journey has been a profound learning experience for our son, encompassing the good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of entrepreneurship. We are immensely grateful for your support and encouragement throughout this adventure.❤️
