π BENEFITS of rice sensory bins:
π Rice is small so it helps children develop fine-motor control. (ie. scooping it up with their hands & using their fingers to pick up individual rice grains)
π When children are using cups, spoons, etc. they are practicing hand-eye coordination & also learning about capacity & estimation. Kiddos can also practice picking up individual grains of rice.
π In addition to the fine-motor & tactile experience, children also are smelling the rice & hearing the sound that the rice makes as they dump it through a funnel or other tool.
π Also, handing rice has a calming effect to it. If you have ever run dry rice through your fingers, you will know exactly what I am talking about!
π Provides children the opportunity to participate in exploratory play with others.
π Language development: sensory bins may be filled with a variety of items to increase language development. The bins can provide opportunities to discuss hidden objects.
