The Kofa High School Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (MCJROTC) has earned the national distinction of being named a Naval Honor School for the fourth consecutive year and sixth time overall.
“We are very proud of our cadets who worked so hard planning events, community service, public events, competitions, and executing these to their very best ability,” Kofa MCJROTC Instructor Maj Todd Birney said. “Part of the Naval Honor School award was the formal compliance inspection conducted last February, in which our cadets did a fantastic job of showing how student led programs can flourish.”
Kofa MCJROTC instructors have continuously led their cadets to rank among the nation’s best by increasing community service hours and competing in, and winning, more competitions throughout the years.
The Naval Honor School selections are based on superior performance throughout the school year such as annual commanding general, inspector general inspection, unit enrollment, cadet citizenship (school and unit activities, clubs, leadership, community service, and public affairs), and scholastic achievement (academic awards, scholarships and enlistments).
Earning the Naval Honor School title means that Kofa has the opportunity to send nominations to the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the Military Academy at West Point. Kofa cadets who are interested in joining a service academy will now also have the advantage of earning recommendation letters from their instructors through this national distinction.
The Kofa MCJROTC program is a consistent contender for national titles in competitive events including marksmanship, physical training, and drill and has earned numerous awards and recognitions over the past several years.
The program previously received Naval Honors recognition in 2019-2020 and 2023-2025. They are led by Maj Birney and Sgt Maj Brian Olea.
