The “1974 World Championship” album features the participating national teams. Each country is presented on a double-page spread, complete with its flag, crest, and team photo, along with beautiful individual watercolor stickers of each player. A double-page spread also highlights the “Selección Ideal” (Ideal Team), comprised of 11 players from different countries. The stickers in this album were glued only at the top to allow the text inside the album and on the stickers to be read.
This album is the 🇺🇾 Uruguayan edition and differs from the Chilean version in that the back of each sticker features an advertisement for Uruguayan watch brand “Citizen.”

was an Argentine comedy-musical group, very popular also in several other Spanish-speaking countries. They were formed in 1967 by Gerardo Masana, during the height of a period of very intense choral music activity in Argentina’s state universities. Their outstanding characteristic is the home-made musical instruments (hence the name luthiers, French for “musical instrument maker”), some of them extremely sophisticated, which they skillfully employ in their recitals to produce music and texts full of high class and refined humor. Glauco Capozzoli (1929-2003) was an Uruguayan Postwar & Contemporary painter and engraver who was born in Montevideo 1929. In his youth he studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Montevideo and graduated between 1945 and 1947 where he won 7 medals at the National Salon of Fine Arts. He went on to become a full time artist in the 1950s mainly devoted to engraving. Between 1961 and 1963 he completed two frescos in the residence of the president of National Government Council of Uruguay.

In 1966 Capozzoli travelled to study in Europe and resided in Italy and Belgium. Between 1968 - 1970 he lived in New York and studied engraving techniques - at the request of artist Antonio Frasconi- at the Pratt Institute for Contemporary Printmaking. In the 1970s, he lived in London where his artworks were sold to the USA and Japan. He also began his dedication to painting, a field where its action would tip forward a theme focused on the human figure: prints evocative, populated by highly stylized female presences, filtered through transparencies and lighting effects that supported the refinement.

He moved to Spain in 1971 settling near Barcelona and from 1990 Capozzoli resided in Borja (Zaragoza), Spain, where along with his wife Sonja Sananes founded the “Taller de Grabado Valeriano Bécquer”, an engraving workshop in which they trained local artists. In 1999, together with the most important painters in Latin America, he founded the “Macla Museum of Contemporary Latin American Art” in La Plata, Argentina.
He died in the town of Borja, near Zaragoza, Spain, on September 1, 2003.

"On April 10, 1910, River Plate F.C. played a friendly match against the Argentine team Alumni, considered the best team of the era.
Since both teams’ uniforms were very similar—red and white with vertical stripes—the eleven players on the Uruguayan team wore sky-blue jerseys. The match was played at Parque Central at 3:00 p.m. It began with a goal by the visiting team, but River Plate managed to turn the game around with goals by Pablo Dacal and D’Agosti.
That afternoon, River’s starting lineup consisted of Cavallotti; José and Miguel Benincasa; Lourtet, Sanz, and García; Módena, Dacal, D’Agosti, Raymonda, and Seoane."

Freda Josephine Baker (née McDonald; June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975), also spelled Joséphine Baker, was an American-born French dancer, singer, actress, and spy for the French Resistance. Her career was centered primarily in Europe, mostly in France. She was the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture, the 1927 French silent film Siren of the Tropics, directed by Mario Nalpas and Henri Étiévant.

(15 August 1895 – 3 October 1983) studied at the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Uruguay and acknowledges Pedro Figari (1861–1938) as his most influential teacher. He inherited from Figari his interest in the local environment and the unique role of memory in the creative process. Mazzey had a very long teaching career, and was the lead printmaking instructor at the CGM (Club de Grabado de Montevideo), an institution he helped to found in 1953. He explains that “Leonilda González asked me to give some printmaking classes and then we began talking about starting a Club,” from which he retired in 1975. He was honored with many prizes for painting and prints. He was a social activist and a lifelong member of anti-government associations (including the AIAPE), and regularly participated in artistic activities with political undertones, such as the Primer Salón Independiente de Artes Plásticas (1937) and the Salón de Bellas Artes de Ayuda a los Niños de España Republicana (1938), among other events.

🇺🇾 Club de Grabado de Montevideo (Engraving Club of Montevideo) was a non-profit Uruguayan cultural institution dedicated to the production and promotion of engraving. Created in 1953 in Montevideo, it developed 50 years of activity. (Wikipedia)

“Mexico 70”, figurine album. NO PANINI. Published by “Novedades CRACK” in 1970
Written in Spanish, printed in Uruguay

1970 was the year of the first PANINI album. However, they didn’t arrive in Latin America until later, and (fortunately) local editions continued to be published for a few years, often using images from the PANINI albums and adapting both the design and the content, as in this case. This is a rare Uruguayan edition similar to the Mexican version published by Editorial FHER (often titled “Ases del IX Mundial de Futbol”) with 272 stickers. Even the cover is similar -red cover, with a large white circle and, inside it, a player kicking the ball- in this case, it features a Uruguayan player.
