This World Heart Day, we’re celebrating children like Tram, whose hidden heart condition was found through our Early Detection Clinic and who received lifesaving surgery through Operation Heartbeat.

Every heartbeat matters. In Vietnam, more than 12,000 children are currently waiting for life‑saving heart surgery, and without timely intervention, up to half of children with Congenital Heart Disease may not survive to adulthood.

CHD is treatable, but only when detected early. That’s why our Early Detection Clinics partner with local hospitals to screen children in communities with limited access to healthcare.

Early detection saves lives, and together we can help give every child the chance to grow up with a healthy heart.

This World Heart Day, we’re highlighting two of our programs that bring hope to families facing heart‑related challenges: Early Detection Clinics and Operation Heartbeat. Every day, these programs support children and families living with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD), the most common birth defect worldwide and leading causes of death in children in Vietnam.

What is Congenital Heart Disease?
CHD is a structural problem in the heart that is present from birth. It affects how blood flows through the heart and to the rest of the body. Some children have small defects that require monitoring, while others need surgery or long‑term care. With early diagnosis and the right support, many children with CHD can grow up to live healthy, active lives.

This month, we honour the strength of children, families and caregivers, and the life‑changing impact of early intervention and compassionate care.

Caregivers in rural Vietnam face enormous daily challenges, full‑time care with no income, physical strain from lifting and carrying, limited access to therapy, and the added pressure of low household earnings or elderly grandparents needing support.

Mobility aids reduce stress and risk for both children and caregivers, easing the load and strengthening entire communities.

From safe movement to easier daily care, mobility aids reduce strain, create time to work or rest, and bring dignity back into the home.

When caregivers are supported, whole families become more stable, resilient and able to thrive.

Tien was born with cerebral palsy, and at just 10 years old he relies completely on his mother for every part of daily life.

Thanks to AOGWRVN (ACCI Vietnam) and the generosity of caring supporters, Tien now has a new wheelchair that helps him sit safely, enjoy time outdoors, and gives his mother much‑needed relief in her full‑time caring role.

Your support helps children like Tien experience comfort, dignity and greater connection with the world around them.
