The freshwater Irrawaddy dolphin became extinct on February 15, after the last individual was caught in a fishing net.
In 2016, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) declared the fish functionally extinct after it was found that there were too few potential breeding pairs to sustain the population.
The Irrawaddy dolphin, known locally as "Pa Kha", lives mainly in the south of Laos and was once loved by many tourists. So from now on we no longer have the opportunity to witness these lovely dolphins with our own eyes 😢
