After the incident in the cargo bay, Morphex moved the mask into the ship’s private analysis chamber. While Renko and Soma inspected the ship’s systems, he remained alone with the artifact. The mask emitted no recognizable energy signature, yet the longer he stared at it, the less it felt like an object and the more it resembled a sleeping creature. The moment he placed his hand upon its stitched surface, a torrent of ancient memories flooded his mind. He saw a world long dead, where countless civilizations had waged endless wars against one another. Every hatred, every grief, and every curse left behind by the fallen did not disappear. Instead, they gathered together, forming a single being. That being was Vorgrim. It possessed no permanent body, could never truly die, and grew stronger from the suffering of the living. In the end, the ancient civilizations united and shattered Vorgrim into fragments, sealing them across the universe. When Morphex finally emerged from the vision, he noticed that the crimson stitches had begun spreading from the mask like living roots. They crawled across the floor, searching for something unseen. For the first time since escaping the laboratory where he had been created, Morphex felt genuine unease. He immediately contacted Soma and spoke only a single sentence. “This thing was never fully sealed.”
