It’s been 7 years since I first discovered the movie, and I’ve finally acquired my first Akira shirt—and not just any version, but the most expensive print of them all. This is arguably one of the most valuable vintage anime tees on the market right now.
Here’s a cool fact I uncovered: the print on this shirt is copyrighted by Fashion Victim. Before they developed their own signature branded tags that we are familiar with today, they used blank shirts from Europe and Screen Stars.
Based on the tag details, I suspect this print was originally produced in Europe before gaining popularity in Asia. This might be why later Fashion Victim prints often command much higher values in the Japanese market compared to other versions.
I’m sharing these details publicly so that if any of you are looking to add this piece to your own collection, you can use them as a reference to avoid buying low-quality fakes.
Many collectors assume this shirt has been hemmed, but based on my research, this specific version comes in both single-stitch and double-stitch variations. A more convincing piece of evidence is the stitching on the sleeve, which features ink marks overlapping the seam. If it had been hemmed, those marks wouldn't exist, and the print would be interrupted at the hemline.
