What an unforgettable journey.

As I pack up Strait Yarns and reflect on the past four days at Cairns Indigenous Art Fair 2026, I am filled with gratitude, pride and inspiration. This wasn’t just an event—it was an opportunity to connect with people from across the country, share culture, tell stories, and celebrate the incredible talent of First Nations artists and makers.

Every conversation reminded me why Strait Yarns exists: to create cultural awareness through art. Watching people connect with the Kulap, hearing them ask about its meaning, and seeing them appreciate the time, care and cultural significance behind each handmade piece has been truly humbling.

I’ve met so many amazing artists, businesses and supporters who continue to inspire me. Being surrounded by such creativity and cultural strength has sparked new ideas and renewed my passion to keep creating, sharing and learning.

A heartfelt thank you to the CIAF team for providing such a professional and welcoming space that champions First Nations artists, businesses and communities. Thank you to everyone who visited the Strait Yarns stall, purchased a piece, shared a yarn, or simply stopped to learn about our culture. Your support helps keep our stories alive and ensures they continue to be shared with future generations.

I leave CIAF with a full heart, lasting memories, new friendships, and so much inspiration for what lies ahead.

Until next time…

See you at CIAF 2027! ❤️💛🖤💚💙

Day 3 at CIAF 2026 ✨

What an incredible third day at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair! We have loved meeting so many people who have stopped by to yarn, learn about the cultural significance behind our handmade pieces, and support Strait Yarns.

A huge thank you to everyone who has visited our stall, shared a conversation, and supported our journey. Your encouragement means the world to us.

Tomorrow is the final day, so if you’re at CIAF, make sure you stop by the Strait Yarns stall. We’d love to meet you and share the stories behind our work.

We’re all set and ready for an incredible four days at CIAF! 🌿✨

Strait Yarns is proud to be part of the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) 2026, and our stall is ready to welcome visitors from near and far.

Over the next four days, take the time to wander through the many incredible stalls and meet First Nations artists, makers and creatives from across Queensland and beyond. Every stall has its own unique story, showcasing authentic cultural art, traditional knowledge, contemporary design, weaving, carving, textiles, jewellery and so much more. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support Indigenous artists directly and take home a genuine piece of culture.

At Strait Yarns, we’re proud to share our Kulap (Gorr) dance rattles, woven earrings, handmade bags, iPad covers and other creations crafted using natural materials. Each piece reflects our passion for Cultural Awareness Through Art and honours the stories, songs and traditions of the Torres Strait.

A heartfelt thank you to the amazing team at Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) for your continued support of Strait Yarns and for creating such an incredible platform that celebrates and elevates First Nations artists and cultures. Your hard work behind the scenes is truly appreciated, and we’re honoured to be part of this year’s fair.

If you’re visiting CIAF over the next four days, come and say hello, have a yarn, and experience the beauty and diversity of authentic First Nations art and culture.

The countdown is on! 🌿✨

Strait Yarns is excited to be attending the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, and we can’t wait to share our handmade cultural creations with you.

This year’s theme, “Reclamation & Regeneration,” honours the enduring strength, vitality and creativity of Queensland’s First Nations peoples. It is a powerful reminder that our cultures continue to thrive, evolve and be proudly shared through art, story and connection.

At Strait Yarns, our vision is Cultural Awareness Through Art.

Each handmade Kulap (Gorr) is created using naturally sourced materials and represents more than a cultural object. The Kulap bean carries deep cultural significance within the Torres Strait. Every piece reflects the stories, songs and dances that have been passed down through generations, while paying respect to the original makers and the cultural knowledge they entrusted to us.

Whether you’re looking to take home an authentic piece of Torres Strait culture, learn about the significance behind our work, or simply stop by for a yarn, we’d love to meet you.

See you at CIAF!

💚🤍💙🖤From Country to Culture. From Story to Song 💚🤍💙🖤

Every Kulap begins long before it is woven.

It starts here… on Country.

Each bean is carefully collected by hand, with respect for the land that provides it. Every single bean carries more than its natural beauty—it represents a song, a dance, a story, and the enduring cultural knowledge of Torres Strait Islander people.

At Strait Yarns, we believe culture is meant to be shared respectfully. Through every handmade Kulap, we create opportunities for people to learn, connect and appreciate the richness of our traditions.

No two Kulaps are ever the same. Each one is crafted using naturally sourced materials, honouring the original makers and the generations who have kept these cultural practices alive.
