We spent years trying to find underwear that was truly clean - undyed, unbleached, nothing added. We couldn’t find it. So we made it.

Most underwear is treated as a blank canvas for colour. Bleached white. Dyed to bring out bright colours. Finished with chemicals that sit against your most sensitive skin for 12+ hours a day. We decided that wasn’t good enough.

Maayu underwear is organic cotton in its most natural form. No dyes. No bleach. Nothing extra. And yes — we embrace stains. They’re natural. They’re your body doing what it’s meant to do. Light cotton lets you see them, notice them, stay in tune with what’s normal for you.

Have you ever thought about where your underwear gets its colour from?

Most of us haven’t. But synthetic dyes used in the garments industry sit against intimate skin for hours every day — and our intimate skin absorbs more than any other on your body.

Bright white underwear is not as clean as it looks. Cotton’s natural colour is off-white. Bright white means it has been bleached. Bleach residue in fabric can irritate sensitive skin, disrupt pH, and aggravate recurring infections.

At Maayu we skip these processes and use unbleached cotton in its most natural form. We use medicinally rich plants like indigo and pomegranate peel to give our inner wear fun colours that are good for the planet and for your skin.

95% cotton is not 95% as breathable as 100% cotton. That 5% spandex isn’t just a small addition. It’s a synthetic fibre woven through the entire structure of the cloth - changing its breathability, its chemical profile, and how it sits against your skin.

And this is underwear. The one item worn longest each day. Against the most sensitive skin on your body. There is no such thing as almost organic where it matters most.

Most underwear sold, including brands marketed as ‘cotton’, contains spandex. Spandex is derived from petroleum, manufactured using chemicals, and is classified as an endocrine disruptors.

The intimate area has some of the most absorbent skin on our body. Our body absorbs these chemicals. This is worth understanding.
