We are once again super excited to introduce you guys to one of our combined FueLab / Turbozentrum sponsors james briggs and his only mk1 golf drift car in the world. James owns his own business called Must Weld Motorsport building drift/race/street cars.
James's mk1 golf that he built himself is unqine in the drifting world and we love to see it sideways on the track. the car is basically a tube chassis with a bmw e36 front subframe, arms, hubs, suspension etc a 2.5l straight 6 with a turbo it makes 400hp. It has an mx5 rear subframe, 15” wheels and weigh under a tone. It’s never let James down, he's not had one breakdown in 3 years. It’s actually far more competitive than it sounds on paper, it holds its own! However after this year it’s done 4 hard seasons so his plan is to forge the engine so he can turn it up to 600hp. Put a bmw rear subframe in it so it will take the power and go up to a 17” wheel so he can run a much wider tyre. Big custom body kit (we’ve seen the mock up and its going to be mega)
James's plan this season is to compete in drift league again and get the best result he can, as well as doing as many demos as he can but most importantly have as much fun doing it as possible! James has told us that next winter the car is being upgraded with a forged engine at 600hp, a bmw e36 rear subframe to cope with more power and grip as he’ll be goin to a 245/40/17 semi slick tyre. He’ll also be fitting a bigger lock kit so the car will be extremely competitive.
But all of this is worthless if the car isn’t reliable so that’s why James is super excited to be teaming up with Turbozentrum UK and FueLab who will be supplying a brand new fuel system for the car ready for the big changes for the 2027 season. We cant wait to see what James does is this upcoming season and with the big changes hell be making next season.
