Eee!! How cute are these tiny things!!

09/09/2026

While we love the longer days & abundance of grass, rapidly growing pasture can contain higher levels of sugars & other non-structural carbohydrates which, as we all know, can bring a few challenges for our horses.

For some horses, this extra spring goodness can show up as more energy, fizz or unsettled behaviour. You might notice your usually sensible horse suddenly seeing monsters everywhere or feeling a little more enthusiastic than usual.

For others, it can pose a risk of laminitis or other metabolic issues.

A few things to look out for during spring:
Sudden weight gain or cresty neck ~ Tenderness or heat in hooves ~ Increased digital pulse ~ Hesitant to move or pick up feet ~ Shifting weight from foot to foot ~ Lying down more than usual.

We have a great range of supplements & low GI feeds to help you support your horse through this tricky season. Jump on our website & type Metabolic Care into the search bar to find everything you need.

This week’s staff favourite was an easy one 👀

The WeatherBeeta Softshell Pro Grip Saddle Pad has that soft, cushiony feel we love, plus silicone grip to help keep everything sitting where it should.

But the pocket is what really sold us. It is actually useful without looking bulky or awkward, which is a big win. Perfect for your phone, keys, a couple of treats... or a cheeky hip flask if you are heading out on the hunt field 😏

Practical, good looking and very easy to justify. This one gets our vote.

They work hard for you. Recovery matters🐴

Competition days ask a lot of your horse, especially when there are multiple classes, warm ups and long days away from their normal routine.

A little extra support around hydration, tired muscles, legs and recovery can help keep them comfortable and ready for what comes next.

For NISS and SISS, we’re highlighting a few useful competition day essentials including electrolytes, cooling and leg care products, muscle support and ongoing soundness support.

Because the goal is not just getting through one class. It is looking after the horse underneath you for the long run.

❣Recover well. Come back ready❣

Unload. Set up. Settle in 🐴

Once you arrive at NISS | SISS, it's all about getting your horse comfortable, organised and settled into their new surroundings.

A few things worth having ready:

✅Name tags on halters - so your horse can be clearly identified.

✅ Buckets for feed and water - because the basics are the things you definitely do not want to be scrambling for once you arrive.

✅A pooper scoop - to keep your stable or yard clean.

✅Stable rugs - to help keep your horse comfortable once they are settled in.

✅ Stable boots or wraps - for horses that need a little extra protection while standing overnight.

The easier your setup is, the easier it is to focus on your horse and the competition ahead.

Get sorted. Get settled 🤗

Travel well. Arrive ready 🐴

NISS | SISS travel prep is about making the trip as comfortable and uncomplicated as possible for your horse.

Think travel rugs, travel boots, tail guards & wraps, hay nets and bags, and all the little extras that help protect them, keep hay available and make life easier once you arrive.

And one thing we really rate for the float and competition day is Poseidon Stress Paste. We love this stuff, and it is well worth having a few tubes handy. It is a concentrated, non swabbable nutritional formula designed to support horses during times of stress or high exertion, including travel, changes to normal environments and competition.

Stress Paste supports gut health, hydration, normal nerve and muscle function and recovery, with magnesium, amino acids, prebiotics, betaine, B vitamins, pectin and antioxidant support from Vitamins C and E.

Simple to pack. Easy to use. Very handy when your horse is dealing with a lot more than their normal routine.
