Jewellery in our Yarina collection has been lovingly handcrafted by Otavaleño artisans who have been working with us over the last 20 years.

These exquisite handmade pieces include interacately designed bracelets, necklaces + earrings accented beautifully by coloured stones and beadwork.

Their designs are rich in meaning and an ode to the talented jewellers of Otavalo.

Growing up travelling to different markets around Australia always bought a sense of adventure.

Each market, as the sun rose, busy market holders would set up their goods and chat about the day ahead, reminding me of a typical day at The Plaza De Ponchos in Otavalo.

I would watch as dad meticulously lay out our colourful craft and as market goers would start arriving they would be drawn to the beauty and unique craft we had on display.

I would stand next to dad with pride as he explained the significance and work that went into each item and listen to him give wisdom learned from his Abuelito.

20 years on and my dad is still travelling to markets sharing our craft, his humour and Abuelito's wisdom.

Sitting on the foothills of the Andes Mountains - Otavalo, known as the 'Valley of Awakening' is a magical and colourful region hugged by the Cotacachi and Imbabura volcanoes and cooled by the legendary Lake - Lago de San Pablo.

At the heart of the town sits one of my favourite places - Plaza de Ponchos.

As is custom each weekend the Otavaleños set up stalls of their art and craft and decorate their tables with colourful products such as textiles, bags, jewellery, ponchos, ceramics and Andean musical instruments.

I would love roaming through the stalls with my parents as they bought products from local artisans, being welcomed into homes and shops to meet the people and see the materials with which our products are made.

Here I would learn to admire the skill, intricacy, care and respect and above all, the love which these artisans put into their craft.

Magic happens when you read a book 📖
