Oberlin College Music proudly presents the National Brass Ensemble. Performing the Music of Gabrieli: Music For Brass Ensemble. Recorded Direct to Stereo and 5 Channel Surround Sound DSD by Telarc’s former Senior Recording Engineer Michael Bishop at Skywalker Sound.

The National Brass Ensemble is comprised of the finest brass players in major orchestras across the United States. There are twenty-six members most of whom currently hold principal positions in The Cleveland Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

The album’s repertoire includes excerpts from Giovanni Gabrieli’s innovative Sacrae symphoniae (1597), arranged for this ensemble by San Francisco Symphony trombonist Tim Higgins, and the World Premiere Recording debut of Music for Brass, a new work by celebrated film composer John Williams.

Kal Rubinson from Stereophile Magazine says “This brass spectacular is the latest in a distinguished line. Recorded direct to DSD at Skywalker Sound Stage by Five/Four Productions, with Michael Bishop (of Telarc fame), the playing is exuberant and precise, as is the crystalline delineation of the instruments’ sounds.”
