As Guildford Library undergoes refurbishment (very exciting!) sadly Guildford Library of Things will be closed from August 20th till September 21st.

Our volunteers will use this time to get several recently donated items ready for loan, so when we reopen in September, we'll have more items than ever. See you then!

Guildford library will be closed from Thursday 20 August to Monday 21 September while improvement works take place.

From Monday 21 September, the library will reopen with a click and collect service. During the click and collect period, customers will still be able to borrow books in two ways:

Ready Reads (free of charge) – our libraries team will select a collection of books based on your reading preferences for you to collect from Guildford Library. Please note that some restrictions will apply to the range of titles available. The online form will be available from Monday 14 September. Library reservations: you can continue to reserve specific items through our usual reservations service. Standard reservation charges will apply.

Customers will also be able to return items and collect reservations during the click and collect period.

Unfortunately, public computers, photocopying facilities, bus pass services and all other library services will be unavailable until the library fully reopens. We expect the library to be fully reopened by the end of October and will keep customers updated on progress.

Throughout the closure, events and activities will be unable to take place at the library. A number of our events including rhymetime will be held at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, outlined below:

Rhymetime and storytime: Wednesdays at 10.30am in the River Room

Poetry Hub: Thursdays at 10am in the Meeting Room
Warhammer club: last Saturday of the month at 3pm in the River Room

Dungeons and Dragons club: second Saturday of the month at 2.30pm in the River or Vanbrugh Room.

Throughout this closure, customers can use any one of our other Surrey libraries including the nearest libraries which are Ash, Godalming and Horsley libraries.

All loans will be extended until Monday 10 November, so no fines will be incurred.

Apologies everyone, but please note that Guildford Library, and therefore the Library of Things, is closed today due to the continued heat.

After a prolonged period of hot weather this week and a review of indoor conditions, we are continuing to see high temperatures inside Guildford library.

To protect the wellbeing of both visitors to the library and our staff, we will be closed today (Saturday 27 June). Your nearest libraries are Woking Library and Godalming Library.

This weekend Guildford LoT volunteer David went on a little pilgrimage to one of the biggest Library of Things in the country, Liverpool Tool Library. They have been an inspiration to us since we started, and it was fantastic to finally go and say hi, and see how it all works. With over 1,000 items (!!) they continue to be a role model for us, and a target for what we can achieve here in Guildford.

We are super pleased that many of our gardening items were used by Zero Carbon Guildford volunteers working on Guildford in Bloom last weekend, as they cleared the planters outside of Guildford Library ready for new plants. Wow! What an amazing March at Guildford Library of Things! Thank you to everyone who borrowed items from us last month. You helped make it our BEST EVER MONTH with over 210 loans! 🎉💖

That includes Will & Beth who borrowed our lawnmower for the first mow of spring, and Ben who borrowed our posthole digger and electric planer to build this AWESOME tree-house! 😮👏
