Avel Sound Concept is a small Singapore based workshop specialised in high quality, affordable saxop when contacting me. No guess work here.

ProduAvel Sound Concept offers full saxophone mouthpiece refacing and modifications with a choice of Radial (free blowing, “modern” sound) curves, Elliptical (more resistance, “vintage” feel/sound, resistance can be dialed-in to a certain extent) or Power Curve, thick/thin tip rail & side rails, short/medium/long facing length, etc. Please state your preferences (if any) and provide a description of your set-up (saxophone brand/model, reed brand/model/strength, etc. My facing curves are computer generated to perfectly match your chosen tip opening and facing length. I can accommodate any facing length and tip opening combination you prefer. The resulting facing curve will be a perfect match for the best possible playing experience. I play test all mouthpieces before I send them back to you. This process involves a lot of communication to fully understand your playing style, your goals, your expectations and the problems your are experiencing with your set-up.ct/Service

After an incredible 17 years journey in Singapore, Avel Sound Concept is relocating to Malaysia in April.

✨ Taking orders in Singapore until 15th February
✨ Back in action from Kuala Lumpur at the end of April

🔥 Introducing the ASC Simoom🔥

The latest soprano saxophone mouthpiece from Avel Sound Concept.

Crafted from hard rubber, the ASC is the result of a long development process and hours spent chasing a very specific sound. The final design features a long, rounded, high baffle flowing into a large chamber. It isn’t inspired by any existing mouthpiece; instead, the real influence comes from the sound of Middle‑Eastern clarinet players: rich, vocal, expressive.

The result of that journey? A deep and dark core with just the right amount of zing to cut when needed. Flexible, responsive, and surprisingly versatile across genres — from jazz and contemporary to more experimental textures.

Why the name Simoon?
The simoom is a powerful, hot, dry, dust‑laden wind blowing across the Sahara and the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula. Intense, raw, and full of character — exactly the spirit behind this piece.

⚠️ A Word of Caution to Fellow Players

It’s that time of the year again…

Every year, a couple of “famous” refacers are invited by local shops in Singapore and offer refacing services at super-discounted rates — sometimes as low as S$20–30, or even free.

And every year, without fail, I end up seeing players at my door with mouthpieces that have been ruined by these so-called experts. Here’s just one recent example: a beautiful Selmer Claude Delangle, badly butchered. Take a look at the second photo — and keep in mind, this wasn’t even one of the free jobs.

👉 The takeaway: if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Quality work requires skill, time, and care — not a bargain-bin price tag.

On the bench today, an interesting case of two brand new but very different Otto Link Super Tone Master V 7* Tenor Saxophone.

Huge difference in length, shank thickness, tip rail and baffle.

Salvaging a Vandoren B50 bass clarinet mouthpiece that previously saw better days. Crafting a nice rollover baffle, thinning done the tip rail a little, flattening the table, new facing curve, etc.

This thing is soon going to be singing nicely with a USA based doubler.
