Everyone’s hands shake when they touch their crown for the first time. People have cried when putting on their regalia. There is so much power in these pieces 👑 We’re about to see on our screens very soon and this crown carries an extremely special blessing with it for his future endeavours. His order had a 48hr turnaround time to it. Not ideal BUT… NOT IMPOSSIBLE! We played husband and wife before so this commission was close to my heart. The crown is slightly larger than the standard 7 quill crown because this man is a giant in stature and in spirit! This is not our story alone. It belongs to the ancestors who walked before us and the children who will walk after. Each piece in this collection is a tribute to that enduring spirit—crafted with respect, intention, and a deep love for our roots.

The Crown
A crown of knowing. Not placed upon us, but rising from within. It speaks to ancestral authority, matriarchal wisdom, and the quiet power of those who lead without asking permission.

The Porcupine Quills
Five quills stand tall, inspired by the porcupine, a creature we deeply admire. The porcupine does not chase, boast, or dominate. It trusts its instinct, knows when to stand still, and protects itself with wisdom rather than aggression. In many indigenous traditions, the porcupine represents self-respect, gentle strength, and the courage to be exactly as you are. These quills honour protection, intuition, discernment, continuity, and ancestral intelligence.

The Circle
An unbroken embrace. Community. Cycles. The eternal connection between those who came before us, those walking now, and those yet to be born.

The battle has been won! We nearly changed banks because of how long this took but it happened finally.

As a 2 female startup we could never have dreamt of this kind of growth, demand *and* challenges but we’ve learnt that this journey must be shared. Including the hurdles. The Khoe Queen crown origin story…

As another family collection of 4 crowns has just been shipped upcountry I realised that we’ve never told you why our flagship heritage piece is the porcupine quill Khoe Queen Crown. During filming of the award-winning documentary series Khoe Khoe Saga I received the immeasurable honour of interviewing, spending time with and learning from Heads of Royal houses, Chiefs, Paramount Chiefs, historians, anthropologists and cultural custodians from all over Southern Africa. I noticed one headpiece that seemed to be a common denominator amongst all the clans, tribes and houses. Then on the day in the second slide, I sat with the (now) late Chief Okkie and told him I’m going to try my best to translate this headpiece into a wearable piece for the next generation and I then I took this photo of him. Almost a decade later and it’s happening and you all are making it happen. Kai Gangans… we’ve only just begun 👑 (ps: website development almost done 🏹)

Why the crown?
