I’ve been asked so many times to share what a normal week of working out actually looks like for me, so last week I decided to document it.
And, because I run an activewear brand, I obviously documented the outfits too.
So here’s what the week looked like:
Monday is almost always gym, and usually legs. I also skip for about 30 minutes when I’m at the gym. I genuinely love skipping, and the fact that jumping is good for bone health is a pretty good bonus, especially as we get older.
Tuesday is usually either gym or yoga. But last week my boyfriend had a dentist appointment that left him without a tooth, and neither of us felt like doing either. So we went for a slow walk along the prom instead. I don’t track my steps. I actually don’t want to get into the mindset of having to hit a certain number every day. I’d rather just walk, chat, enjoy the scenery and be in the moment.
Wednesday was heated yoga. My favourite.
Thursday was actually a surprisingly good gym day. By Thursday I’m usually feeling pretty tired and don’t have a whole lot left to give, but I managed squats and deadlifts and even went a little heavier than I normally do. My boyfriend was there to spot me, which definitely helped.
Friday is normally boxing night for us as a family. We do it most Fridays, but I was travelling for work this week, so I missed it.
Saturday was a proper rest day.
And Sunday was active rest. My boyfriend and I went for a slow two-hour walk along the prom. It was one of those beautiful days where you don’t really want to be anywhere else.
I’m not exercising because I’m trying to be skinny. I’m exercising because I want to be strong and healthy for as long as I possibly can.
I want to be mobile. I want to be independent. I want to still be able to do things with my body when I’m 60, 70, 80 and beyond.
That’s why I lift weights and try to progressively get stronger. That’s why I jump. That’s why I walk. And that’s why I try to move consistently.
Sometimes I’m tired. Sometimes work gets in the way. Sometimes I just don’t feel like doing it.
But my superpower isn’t motivation.
It’s consistency.
I’m playing the long game.
Love,
Meriza
