Advancing Circularity in the World of Work
On this Workers’ Day, CSA acknowledges the role of workers in building resilient economies and advancing systems that promote sustainable resource use. A circular economy not only reduces waste and conserves resources, it also creates new employment pathways that are regenerative, inclusive, and economically viable.
Circular business models such as repair, reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling offer opportunities for job creation across multiple sectors. These models enable the development of local skills, support small enterprise development, and foster economic participation in both formal and informal sectors.
By designing systems that decouple growth from resource extraction, circularity strengthens long-term job security and improves livelihoods. As industries transition to more sustainable practices, workers remain central to the implementation of these changes through their expertise, innovation, and adaptability.
CSA remains committed to working with industry, government, and labour stakeholders to support a just and inclusive transition to circular practices in South Africa.
