The most common pests on cymbidiums đź‘€

Keep an eye out for these:
• Aphids (often on spikes and buds)
• Mealybugs (white, cotton-like clusters)
• Scale (small brown bumps on leaves and stems)
• Snails (chewed leaves, damaged growth, especially at night)

Always check under leaves and along flower spikes — that’s where many pests like to hide.

The earlier you catch them, the easier they are to control.

Regular checks = healthier plants 🌱

Please don’t water your orchids with ice cubes ❄️

It might look convenient, but it’s not how orchids are meant to be watered — especially cymbidiums.

Here’s why:
• Orchids are tropical plants and aren’t adapted to cold temperatures
• Ice can shock the roots, leading to stress and potential damage
• It doesn’t water evenly — only part of the root system gets moisture
• It encourages poor watering habits

Cymbidiums, in particular, need proper, thorough watering — not tiny amounts of cold water.

What to do instead:
• Water thoroughly until it runs through the pot
• Allow excess water to drain completely

Orchids need a proper soak + good drainage to thrive.

Pro tip: Cymbidiums naturally grow outdoors and experience rainfall — they’re built for deep watering, not restriction.

Save this so you don’t fall for the ice cube myth 🙌

Want perfect cymbidium spikes? 🌸
Stake them early.

The best time to start is when the spike is still young, soft, and flexible — this makes it much easier to guide into shape.

How to stake:
• Insert a stake gently into the pot
• Use clips or soft ties
• Secure the spike loosely (never squeeze)

You can guide the spike straight up or slightly arched — it’s up to you.

Don’t wait too long — older spikes become stiff and much harder to position.

Pro tip: Start staking when the spike is around 10–20cm tall — that’s when it’s easiest to work with.

A little early support = a beautifully presented plant later ✨

Want more flowers? Count your bulbs 🌸

A cymbidium needs enough energy stored to produce blooms — and that comes from its pseudobulbs.

As a general guide:
• At least 3–5 mature bulbs are needed for reliable flowering

If your plant is still small, it may not bloom yet — and that’s completely normal.

Bigger, more established plants = more spikes and better flowering.

Focus on building a strong, healthy plant first… the flowers will follow ✨

Your cymbidium will tell you when it’s thirsty 🌱

You just need to know where to look.

Check the pseudobulbs:
• Plump and firm = well hydrated
• Wrinkled = needs water

It’s one of the easiest and most reliable ways to understand your plant’s needs — no guessing required.

Instead of sticking to a strict schedule, let your plant guide you.

Healthy, hydrated bulbs = a happy cymbidium ✨
