This was one of the biggest and most intense waves I caught that day in the Final of Mavericks Big Wave Invitational, in 2010. A pretty iconic day for big wave surfing and the day before Shane Dorian had a two wave hold down, came close to drowning and then collaborated to bring the first big wave inflation vests to the world.

It may seem like a solo sport but you’re never alone when doing these kinds of sports. Behind the scenes is a team that is dedicated to your success, and the journey to success in life is all about the people you meet along the way.

Don Montgomery is not only an incredible photographer, but has become a great friend over the last two decades through the photos he has taken and the memories we’ve shared at Mavericks.
