WHAT I WAS READING TODAY...📚

Part of my aim is to just understand how Asian culture, which is very similar to African traditions, gained a better global appeal and acceptance than African cultures. Today I found only a tiny glimpse of that answer in this book, The Ultimate Book of Martial Arts.

As well as sharing all the popular martial arts and their techniques, it also summarizes their origins.

One of these styles is called the Tae Kwondo. It's a form of fighting based on kickfighting. With its roots stretching as far back as 2000 years ago, it was properly developed in Korea in the early 1950s. The people's interest in this form of martial art convinced the government to give it its fullest support. It also identified a major opportunity for Korea if Tae Kwondo was positioned as an integral part of the country's identity. All these efforts led to this martial art spreading worldwide. In 1988 it was officially listed as an Olympic sport.

As I've mentioned, this gave me a better understanding of how Asian culture tends to spread far greater than African traditions at a global level.

The Korean government, in this case, took the bold steps to add its financial muscle into what was a novel and maybe abstract sport at the time. And it paid off. But that's certainly a tiny understanding of this matter. What's really behind the domination of Asian cultures when compared with African culture in the global context? What are we consistently doing wrong that keeps African culture below in the global scale. Do we even want to to climb this ladder? Or is everything fine as it is?
Imagine, a book about arts got me thinking about all this...📚📚

"Honia river flowed on. The insects went on with their incessant sound mingling with the fall of the river. The whole scene became fearful to Nyambura and she no longer felt excited. Even the warmth of the morning sun did not awaken her."

WHAT I WAS READING TODAY... Spells for Sweet Revenge.

Don't let its cover deceive you.
This book contains spells which act as forms of getting revenge from those who've wronged you. They are not deadly spells. But their effect can embarrass and rattle them just enough to regret messing with you.
The book also feels like a perfect starter kit for aspiring witches.
It also has nice illustrations too and easy to read. I finished it today. The world is wicked and you need to be armed for revenge😄📚 📚
