The Story of Turkish Walnut – From Grade 2 to Grade 8 Exhibition
Turkish walnut has been the heart and soul of fine sporting rifles for over 150 years. It is not just wood — it is a living piece of history, grown in the mountains of Turkey where the combination of soil, climate and centuries-old trees produces some of the most beautiful grain patterns on earth.
Here’s what makes each grade special:
-Grade 2– Clean, straight grain with subtle figure. Reliable and classic.
- Grade 3 – The starting point for every Musgrave Deluxe. Noticeable curl and colour variation begin to appear.
- Grade 4 – Beautiful fiddleback and flame start to dance across the stock.
- Grade 6– Rich, deep figure with strong contrast and dramatic grain flow.
- Grade 8 Exhibition – The absolute pinnacle. Heavy marble, lightning bolts, incredible depth of colour and one-of-a-kind patterns that collectors dream about.
Every piece we use at Musgrave is hand-selected by our team. We look for density, stability and that unmistakable beauty that only mature Turkish walnut can offer.
This is part of the Musgrave tradition that goes back more than 100 years. From the earliest rifles made in the 1920s right through to the new Beast M21x we build today, we have always believed a rifle should not only perform flawlessly in the field, but also become a family heirloom that grows more beautiful with time.
