Jacinta Ngobese says people should sign a petition started by SACR because she believes there is a conflict of interest. She claims that the Scalabrini Centre went to court to help undocumented foreigners get documents from Home Affairs, while some people linked to the same organisation also advise the Department of Home Affairs.

She also claims that lawyers involved in the Chidimma case are part of the same problem. In her opinion, foreigners are using the courts to make it easier for themselves to live in South Africa. These are Jacinta Ngobese's claims and opinions, not findings made by a court.

Malawi Police blocks Ethiopians from trafficking to South Africa
HUMAN TRAFFICKER ARRESTED IN MALAWI
NEW: In what has been described as a breakthrough against transnational organized crime, police have arrested Adnew Bashaw Wudamo, the suspected ringleader of a human trafficking network spanning East and Southern Africa, following a joint law enforcement operation involving the Ethiopian Federal Police (EFP), Interpol, and the Malawi Police Service.

In February 2025, a PIJ investigation revealed how the syndicate embedded itself deep within Malawi’s government, creating a vast network of enablers that facilitate a brutal and dangerous passage of desperate migrants fleeing war and poverty in Ethiopia to the promise of a better life in other countries, including South Africa.

university research says
illegal immigrants are the heart of SA economy

A new report by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the University of Johannesburg estimates that immigrants contribute around 9% of South Africa's GDP equivalent to approximately US$43 billion (about R708 billion) based on current economic estimates.

According to the report, immigrants make up just 6.5% of South Africa's population, but play a significant role across sectors including construction, agriculture, hospitality, retail and entrepreneurship. Researchers say migrants contribute through taxes, consumer spending, skills and job creation.

The report also examines common perceptions about immigration, arguing that available evidence does not support claims that migrants are the primary cause of unemployment, crime or pressure on public services. Instead, it calls for migration policy and public debate to be guided by reliable data and evidence.
