Can you believe it’s October?
Freaking hell!

But this gorgeous Christmas pudding bowl has never seen another one since living in my home!

Well firstly, I’ve never made one of those and second, I think another hot pot will shatter her!

She needs to live happily as a salad bowl.
But she is just gorgeous, don’t you agree?

In KwaZuluNatal, 24 September has been observed as ‘Shaka’s Day,’ in commemoration of the legendary Zulu king, King Shaka Zulu.

When the proposed Public Holidays Bill before the New South African Parliament omitted Shaka Day, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), objected to the bill. A compromise was reached when it was decided to create a day where all South Africans could observe and celebrate their diverse cultural heritage.

In an address marking Heritage Day in 1996, former President Nelson Mandela stated:

“When our first democratically-elected government decided to make Heritage Day one of our national days, we did so because we knew that our rich and varied cultural heritage has a profound power to help build our new nation.”

Those who know her, want to be her, those who don’t know her, well now you do! ✨
Fathima from fathima | illustrator • designer is one of the best designers that I know.

She is a multidisciplinary designer that quietly crafts her skill while modestly sharing her process.
Not all designers work with such composure and mastery. Her organic naturalist style with her keen eye for detail, makes her one of the best in her field.

She is the type of person that is always game for an event, always says yes (JazakAllah!) and always offers her consideration towards your quest. And for this, and so much more, she is a business worth shouting about.

I think she is also fitting as tomorrow we see out Women’s Month, and we see it out with a dynamic & talented creative.

Rare Bausch & Lomb ‘Jug Handle’ Microscope (c.1908)

This antique American-made Bausch & Lomb microscope is a rare collector’s piece, dating from before 1930. It features a built-in carrying handle (the ‘jug handle’) and is in good working order, though the original clamps are missing.

Case is included, but without a key.

Bausch & Lomb did not list metallurgical microscopes in their catalogues until around 1911; by 1922, several models were available, including this portable BHM. Unlike standard microscopes of the era (which focused by moving the optical tube), the BHM keeps the stage fixed and moves the tube – a design that made it easier to accommodate the vertical illuminator.

On the 9th of August 1956, Rahima Moosa, Lillian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, and Sophia Theresa Williams de Bruyn, led the women’s anti-pass march to the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

It was one of the largest demonstrations staged in South African history. Holding thousands of petitions in one hand, they handed over the petitions to Prime Minister Strijdom.

These are the women you need to surround yourself with. The ones who lift others up, the ones that show up when you need them and the ones that are fierce about equality.

We celebrate all brave women.
We celebrate our history.
