I Loved You Enough....

Someday when my children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them:

I loved you enough to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home.

I loved you enough to insist that you save your money and buy a bike for yourself even though we could afford to buy one for you.

I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new friend was a creep.

I loved you enough to make you pay for the bubble gum you had taken and tell the clerk, "I stole this yesterday and want to pay for it".

I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that their parents are not perfect.

I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broken my heart.

But most of all, I loved you enough to sa NO when I knew you would hate me for it.

Those were the most difficult battles of all. I am glad I won them, because in the end you won, too.

We were made to persist.
That's how we find out who we are.

I'm tired of living for other people.I'm tired of trying to make everyone else happy. You know what happens when you do that? You're miserable! Because you're forgetting that happiness is inside, in your heart and in your mind.

Live your goals and your dreams. Make your own mistakes and learn. Mistakes and failure teach you much more about yourself than victory ever could. So fail. Get knocked down, tripped up, and lose sometimes.

No one's ever reached the summit of Mt Everest, looked down and said, "That wasn't worth it." Because it was worth it. Every mistake, every trip, fall, and scrape makes that final step that much more gratifying.

When all you've known is struggle, pain, and disappointment and you reach that mountaintop, that at one point wasn't even visible, it's pure bliss. Bliss sweetened by an agonozing journey. But it's a journey you wouldn't trade for the world because everything up until that point molded you into who you are on that day.

So find your mountaintop. Scrape a knee or two on the way up but don't be held back by the opinion of others because everyone's climb is their own. And that final step can only be taken by you and you alone.
