The African Journal Club is coming to Jozi. 🖊️

Once a month at 44 Stanley, we slow down and write it out. Morning pages, letters, poems, sketches, doodles or just thoughts on paper. No phones. Just pens, paper, coffee and community.
This is a club for journal writers, note scribblers, deep feelers, sketch makers, poets, over-thinkers, list writers and dreamers. For anyone who believes that pen and paper can change the world.

Next month, Jazz at the Bioscope welcomes .mhlanga.za widely regarded as the master of the African guitar, and one of those rare artists who fills a room with warmth before he’s played a single note. Curated by Mandla Mlangeni, this is the kind of evening that reminds you exactly why live jazz matters.

Encounters returns to this June with a 10-day programme inviting audiences into stories of memory, resistance, identity, music, loss, and belonging, all through the lens of documentary film.

The Q&A screenings are especially worth making time for: A Little Blackman From The Congo, an open field, My Father’s Son, Taste of the Land, Just Because I’m a Street Kid, Dear Sikhonkwane, and Broken Windows all offer the opportunity to stay after the credits and hear directly from the filmmakers and contributors themselves.

Also look out for Amadou & Mariam: The Blind Couple From Mali, Notes From The Underground, and My Father’s Son. Quite extraordinary storytelling all around.

Tickets and times available via the link in bio.
