THE PASTRY THAT SHRUNK

It’s Thursday, which means another baking crime has landed on our investigation desk.

A perfectly innocent pastry case. 🥧

It went into the oven looking beautiful. Neatly lined. Perfectly shaped.

Proudly sitting exactly where it was supposed to be.

Then it came out…

Smaller.

The sides had pulled away from the tin, the beautiful edges had shrunk, and suddenly there was enough space between the pastry and the tin to make you wonder whether it had packed a bag and tried to leave.

So who is responsible?

Our investigators have examined the evidence, questioned the suspects and uncovered some of the most common reasons pastry shrinks during baking.

Because pastry has a very simple request:

Leave it alone, keep it cool, and stop making it work harder than necessary. 😏

If you’ve ever carefully lined a tart tin, admired your beautiful pastry…

…and then opened the oven to discover it has retreated from the sides like it’s avoiding responsibility— this case file is for you.

Good morning, Bakers! 👋

This week we’re keeping things ridiculously simple — because sometimes the best recipes are the ones that require absolutely no baking, no complicated techniques and preferably no adult supervision. 😂

🍫 NO-BAKE CHOCOLATE SQUARES 🍫

Chocolate + marshmallows + Tennis biscuits.

That’s basically it. 😏

And here’s where the fun starts 👀

You can make these completely your own by throwing just about anything into that chocolatey goodness:

🍪 Biscuits
🥜 Nuts
🍓 Dried fruit
🍬 Sweets
🥥 Coconut
🍿 Popcorn
🍫 Extra chocolate
✨ Sprinkles
…or whatever is lurking in the cupboard waiting to become someone else’s problem.

This is also a brilliant recipe for the kids to take over. Minimal ingredients, minimal fuss and maximum opportunity for them to create something delicious while you stand nearby pretending you’re supervising. 😂
