Happy Earth Day!

Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable.

Spekbooms absorb the highest volume of carbon dioxide compared to any other plant.

Excess carbon in the air is responsible for global warming so plant more spekbooms
to fight climate change.

You can make a difference in our 🌍

Spekbooms are also known as an Elephant bush and are essential to many animals including the kudu and elephants because of its ability to remain succulent despite periods of heat and drought.
Spekbooms can live up to 200 years old and a broken branch tossed onto the ground by a grazing elephant will grow roots and create a whole new plant.
It can sprout up to 5 metres tall.
If you are looking for a versatile plant that can be turned into a hedge, a bonsai, used as ground cover or a large bush a Spekboom is the plant for You ❤

Spekbooms have a photosynthetic mechanism which allows it to adapt to all weather conditions.
As an indoor plant they love bright, indirect light. A location that gets a few hours morning sun would be the perfect spot. They like to be watered well using water at room temperature then allowed to dry out before watered again. Water every two weeks or a small amount once a week but do not over water. Remember these miracle plants are drought tolerant. They easy to ❤

PROTECT OUR 🌍

LovePots is all about protecting our environment. During lockdown last year we started a little family Spekboom project and we really wanted to be part of the Spekboom challenge. We wanted to do our part as a family of planting as many Spekbooms possible. It was also to teach our children about our ecosystem and how we play a huge part in helping it grow and thrive. Many questions were asked during our planting and the word Protect was used often. Here we have one of our son's Cooper. Cooper suggested we spread the Spekboom love. He calls them his Spekkies and wants as many people to join in on making a difference!

Contact us. If you have a Spekboom plant in your garden propagate more and if you don't let us help you do this.

Our Friday Fact!

We're not suggesting you chow down a plate of Spekboom but they are edible and have a light, citrussy flavour.

If you ever find yourself hiking through the Karoo you can suck on a leaf. They used to treat exhaustion and dehydration.

Spekkies are simply Spek-tacular ❤
