It’s all in the details! 🧵✨

I’m back on the fabulous BERNINA 990, adding more stitching to my Frida denim jacket.

One of my favourite things about the built-in stitches is just how much you can customise them. You can enlarge them, reduce them, and use the mirror function to flip the stitch in the opposite direction.

For this appliqué detail, I’m using my BERNINA Open Embroidery Foot with a gorgeous multicoloured thread to create a scalloped edge. When I move to the other side of the design, I simply mirror the stitch so that the scallops follow the appliqué perfectly in the opposite direction.

Such a small feature, but it gives you so many more creative possibilities! ❤️

Every little stitch adds another layer of personality to this jacket—and that’s exactly what I love about textile art.

🧵✨ Playing with decorative stitches on the BERNINA B 990!

I’m adding even more detail to my Frida jacket, and this time I’m having fun with some of the beautiful decorative stitches on the brand-new BERNINA B 990.

What I love is the freedom to resize the stitches — making them larger or smaller to suit the area and the effect I want to create. It turns stitching into another design element in the artwork. 🌺

I’m using the BERNINA Open Embroidery Foot, which is perfect for this. The open front gives me a wonderful clear view of the needle and my stitching area, making it much easier to position those decorative stitches exactly where I want them.

And because the is designed to accommodate wider decorative stitches, I can really have fun experimenting with the B 990’s beautiful stitch designs.

Sometimes the smallest stitched details make the biggest difference! ❤️🧵

I’m back on the BERNINA B 990, adding those final layers and details that make a textile artwork come alive.

For the appliqué work, I’m using my BERNINA Echo Quilting and CutWork Foot. I love the large clear sole because I can see exactly where I’m stitching, while still having the freedom to move in any direction around all those wonderfully irregular shapes.

Then it’s back to straight stitching for the finishing touches — adding ribbon, crocheted lace and little embellishments here and there.

This is always one of my favourite parts of the process. ❤️ Layer upon layer, stitch upon stitch… and suddenly all those separate pieces start becoming one story.
