Looking for your next 7wt, we have developed one of the lightest and most responsive rods out there. Through a proprietary resin system that took more than two years to dial in, and innovative use of Toray carbon fibres we finally launched!

The taper and material approach has allowed the new Origin II’s to eclipse the performance gap that graphene previously gave us when we designed the original Apex and Gravity ranges.

This is what the Origin II range is all about, extracting every ounce of performance from what we incorporate into a fly rod.

The 9’ 5wt for example is one of the lightest 5wts, not just locally but world wide!
The 6wt in its 9’6” length has the speed of a 9’ rod but that same line punching length of a 10’er.
Then we come to my personal favourite, the 7wt and the rod I never leave behind, with an extremely lively action that you can feel working its magic in your hands, and with the same length advantage when casting off the banks, this is a goto rod for all your estuary work and most inland heavier freshwater species.

The recent trip to the Letaba River right near the was certainly a test for the gear and the body. The harsh African climate attacks from all angles. Dust, grit , heat, cold and maybe a hippo?!

Our latest Origin II 9ft6inch 7wt fly rod proved to be my personal favourite as the extra length gave me some more lift above the vegetation and ledges on the back cast.

A very potent casting rod when paired with the AIRFLO Fly Lines WF7F 40plus extreme taper. While my hands are pretty much broken after 5 days of casting, the rod is still wanting for more.
Top quality cork that can take a beating, super light weight reduces shoulder fatigue and of course adaptability, from large whistlers to smaller brush flies, that’s all in a days work for our latest model. Looks aren’t to bad either 😉

Perhaps you are in the market for a solid 7weight fly rod, perhaps not?, either way it’s always good to share what makes our day, using the gear we thoughtfully design take on some of the toughest conditions out there.

Less is more and for this one, just take in a few of the pictures of small incredibly beautiful moments from our journey to The Mighty Letaba River.

More to follow but for now, the monitors and moments still linger and taking a few days just to fully immerse myself in what was and is truly a special trip.

The Origin II in 567wt is extremely adaptable as it lends itself exceptionally well to setups that are 10’ and longer as the large size and arbor make loading up with a dedicated euro line a breeze. Or, use the exact same reel with a 7wt fly line and hit the salt or target large still water on your 5wt! Adaptable, dependable and a looker. The whole package 😎
