Emron picked up a lovely setup a couple weeks back, and first session out he sent us these absolutely awesome pics and videos of the gear in action. Needless to say, it NEEDS to be shared.

A lovely sized Smallie coming to the net and a quick pose and pic. Not to much beats that!

Building a brand — and a product you’re genuinely proud of , takes time. A lot of time. Over the past couple of years a huge amount of that time has gone into refining the Origin II fly reels. With the latest version, I think they’re about as close to my idea of “right” as I can get them.

And somewhere along the way I realised I’d always wanted a deep purple fly reel. Not really sure why , just one of those things. Anyone who knows me knows I usually fish the oldest, most beat-up gear I own… so it’s probably long overdue that I keep one of the good ones for myself.

Development never really stops, but with the Origin II reels I feel like I can finally take a small breather while we turn our attention to what’s next.

Right now the focus has shifted heavily toward our fly rod range. The level of refinement has honestly become a bit obsessive , almost clinical.
We’re only days away from revealing the next generation, and I’m looking forward to sharing more about just how much work goes into designing a single rod.

From what I’ve tested so far, the results are pretty special. Incredibly light rods, and that’s only a tiny part of the story.

Yesterday wasn’t the greatest day on the river, but those are often the days you learn the most. You start to understand what a rod can really do, and just how incredible fish in the wild rivers are and how they survive.

Here’s to the next 9 years.

I T S – R E A D Y

After nearly three years of testing, tweaking, and obsessing over the smallest details, I can finally take the wraps off something special.

The TechNymph G – 11’ 3wt lands next week.

This is a purpose-built Euro nymphing rod, designed from the ground up. Graphene-powered proprietary resins paired with our uniquely structured Toray 40T + 46T carbon give it a refined, ultra-sensitive taper with a beautifully progressive curve. It loads predictably, protects the lightest tippets with confidence, and recovers cleanly and fast.

It features a switchable tip system and a carbon grip to reduce overall weight while maximising feel and control in hand. Light, responsive, and incredibly connected — exactly what a technical nymph rod should be.

This rod has been properly put through its paces. Rigorously tested by Amy — one of SA’s top competitive anglers — on both Trout and Yellows. Deep technical evaluation by Rob and the gents at HunterFisher. Comparative refinement with Pierre at Stream&Sea. And countless sessions with close, detail-driven anglers who weren’t shy to push it hard. Add to that endless flex testing, rebound analysis, recovery data, and micro-adjustments along the way.

The TechNymph G marks a first for a South African fly fishing brand — bringing graphene-powered resins into a top-end build platform. Rolled and finished for us in South Korea to the standard we demanded.

Next week, I’ll reveal the final production rod and officially open the order books.
