The Cosmopolitan is a heritage building, built in 1899 and situated in the heart of the Maboneng Precinct, directly opposite The Museum of African Design (MOAD) on Albrecht St. The transformation is almost complete into a high-end retail emporium with multiple stores that include fashion, grooming and home as well as the re

vival of the historic ‘Lion Bar’ and the introduction of a restaurant and bar that service the large inner courtyard. All the brands involved are exquisitely curated to create a one of a kind luxury experience in the city. Inspired by the likes of Dover Street Market (London), Colette (Paris) and Opening Ceremony Store (NYC), THE COSMOPOLITAN will bring together international and pan-african luxury brands, artisanal food and an award-winning bar team to create an oasis within the vibrant Johannesburg CBD.

S*x, sensuality and s*xual expression have been warped and co-opted by patriarchal, heteronormative ideas of worth and value, and with that, our ideas of our own s*xual selves.

This project aims to reimagine a world in which our primary s*xual relationships are with ourselves, and our s*xual expression is free from these restrictions - insofar as that is possible.

It is a collaborative effort between photographer and subject; each subject was asked to imagine what an ideal depiction of their s*xual self would look like, and together developed a narrative which helped create the photo. Each subject has written a short piece to accompany the photo, and provide context.

There will be a talk with a few of the subjects, and with the audience, discussing s*x, sensuality and s*xual expression, and how we approach that side of ourselves.

Some of the photos will be available to order on the day, and after the event through Instagram.com/lexxiroussos
